Mouskattack and The Colonel's Bequest

Greetings,

At request of John Williams, I've added Mouskattack in detail to the Sierra Chest. Mouskattack is a 1981 Pacman-style game by On-Line Systems (former name of Sierra) for the Apple II and Atari 8 bit. Sierra made several Pacman clones prior to that, namely Gobbler and Jawbreaker.

Ice Age 2 (GBA): extreme map making

Hi folks,

A quick update on what I've been doing lately. I'm currently working on the game page of Ice Age 2: The Meltdown for the Game Boy Advance. I've already written the whole walkthrough and made maps of every level. The map making is actually what takes most of the time and I thought I'd share the process with you. I must say though, these are the largest maps I ever made, and it's not really a straigh-forward process.

Step 1: record a video, exploring every pixel on the map...

Alphabet Blocks completed in the Sierra Chest

 Greetings!

I took a quick break form Caesar 2 (which will take a few more weeks to complete) and added this game page: Alphabet Blocks by Bright Star Technology. Enjoy :)

This also nearly completes the Talking Tutor series by Bright Star Technology. I only still need to add Beginning Reading, which unfortunately I do not have in my collection yet.

Sierra Chest Easter Eggs upgraded

 Greetings!

The Sierra Chest Easter Eggs have been upgraded :).

Ok, so what did I do? As it was, all Easter Eggs of a game were all stored in a single bulk data field. The first thing I did was splitting up all Easter Eggs, so that each Easter Egg is stored individually and has its own ID number.

Then I created a new data table to store Easter Egg tags. For example I can now link the moose head Easter Egg in Larry 1, which refers to King's Quest 3, to King's Quest 3. What's th...

Long-needed update

Greetings Patrons!

It sure has been an insanely long time since the latest update. Am I still working on the Sierra Chest? That is a most definite YES. However I should really provide more updates to you guys because the latest update was an embarrassingly long time ago. It's nearly inexcusable and I sincerely apologize for that.

Since the latest update I've partially programmed the membership features of the site (including registration, forums, collection design and more) but then full...

Update and new additions

Greetings Patrons!

December has been quite a busy month at the Sierra Chest. Most of the time I spent updating all the Sierra boxes in the database. Quite an annoying task to be honest, but it had to be done in order to make Sierra Chest 2 properly functional on mobile devices. All box art had fixed widths and heights, so it's been converted to relative values where all the box parts resize depending on the users'  screen resolution. With currently around 1,300 of boxes in the database, i...

Sierra Chest 2 launches!

Greetings Patrons!

It has been a bit since my latest update, but there's a very good reason for that. Finally, after years of talk and promises, I had enough of delaying, sat down behind the computer, started coding like a madman, and haven't stopped for nearly three weeks now. The result? Sierra Chest 2 is close to completion! You can already check it out - it's at exactly the same place where the old Sierra Chest was (www.sierrachest.com), except it looks "slightly" different (see image). View Post

Robots is completed in the Sierra Chest!

Yep, finally the game page is up. It includes the video walkthrough, gameplay instructions, full soundtrack, tons of screencaps, a bit of info on the making of the game, character descriptions and more.

The next game coming up may very well be the first one where I'll provide narration during the videos (first time after some 1,800 videos I made over the past 8 years, YAY)! Reason being that it's a strategy game, and the first game of Impressions I'll be covering in detail on the site. That ga...

The Gabriel Knight 20th Anniversary Edition soundtrack, composed by Robert Holmes, isn ow available on the Sierra Chest! Uploaded with permission from Pinkerton Road, designer of the game.

Yes, after completing the Spiderwick Chronicles, I'm currently working on two titles simultaneously. The first is "Robots" by Eurcom Entertainment, which also developed Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. For that game I already completed the videowalkthrough, screencaps and partial text w...

The Spiderwick Chronicles is completed in the Sierra Chest.

I had started on it in January but it still needed some stuff. A fun 3rd-person action adventure for all ages with fantastic soundtrack from the makers of Eragon. This was also one of the very last Sierra titles before the Activision merger, released in 2008.

Long-overdue update

Greetings everybody!

First and for all, I would like to apologize for not having provided an update in quite a while. Lots of things have been and are going on, but most of it concerned updating coding for Sierra Chest 2, and I wanted to make sure I had something of substance to show you, so you can actually visualize the progress.

Let's start out with the annoying news I got from the host of the site. On April 11 I received an email from them, stating that, and I quote:  View Post

Sierra Chest 2 main page early look

See attachment. Now I will start inserting new pages, beginning with a simple page such as the "About us" page. That page is simple because it doesn't require complicated sqls to obtain the data from the database. And when that is done, then I'll build pages  that are hooked up to the upgraded data tables, such as the game pages, news blog and so on. The database is already done, so it's just a matter of programming it into the new site layout.

Sierra Chest 2 development

Greetings!

Although the addition of new game entries has slowed down the past 2 weeks, I've had (and still have) my hands full with other developments, mostly related to Sierra Chest 2: Legacy of the Half-Dome.

Sierra Chest 2 is being built with Zend Framework, using Bootstrap, so it will finally be on par with modern websites, be accessible on mobile devices and boast a brand new community section where members can compile their own collection, access forums, upload screen caps,...
