2026-01-08 04:30:46 +0000 UTCMath Warning: Euler's Identity is considered "beautiful" because it elegantly connects five of the most important, seemingly unrelated, constant numbers in mathematics with perfect precision: 0, 1, π, e, and i. Accordingly, it only makes sense that the author would use the Euler Identity to introduce an Ougi episode dealing with truth, identity, and the seemingly unrelated "constants" of the Monogatari Series. For those who enjoy these types of detective stories, the author also wrote several light novels featuring "locked-room" (i.e., "impossible crime") mysteries that were later adapted into anime (e.g., Kubikiri Cycle: Aoiro Savant to Zaregotozukai, Bishounen Tanteidan). Bishounen Tanteidan (2021) was also animated by studio SHAFT and has impressive production quality for the period of time in between its work on Owarimonogatari (2017) and NinKoro (2025).

I've been waiting for their reaction to "Ougi Formula" ever since part 2 of "Tsubasa Tiger" when Hanekawa talked about Araragi and said, "He's even more unwilling to talk about it than he is with spring break, but apparently he reached a turning point back in his first year of high school. I suppose you could call it 'the reason he turned into a loser,' like he does." Now I have to ruin that by being pedantic and noting that one reason Oikura wanted to be called "Euler" (instead of some other mathematician) is that the name is pronounced "Oiler," not "Yooler."

Here is a short story of mine: I was introduced to monogatari series by no one, I just one day found a clip of owarimonogatari on youtube, I laughed at it and decided to watch it. Little did I know that it was part of a series. I literally binged watch it on one night and thought it was an absolute masterpiece. The next day I went to a friend of mine and told him about owarimonogatari. He inmediatly told me that I messed it up and that Owarimonogatari wasn't the beggining of the series. That same day I decided to investigate a little and saw a list of the chronological order of monogatari series. So after finishing Owarimonogatari, I watched Kizumonogatari. The next day I went to the same friend to tell him about how perfect Kizumonogatari was. He, once again, told me how stupid I was and that I needed to watch the series on the order the series was published. So that same day I watched Bakemonogatari and then the rest of the series. Even though the first time I watched Owarimonogatari I didn't know the characters, the setting or the story, it was so perfect that it kept me entertained and invested in unraveling a story that wasn't known to me.
