2025-10-12 10:49:58 +0000 UTCWhat would I call the episode we just watched? I'd call it "Getting Insight into Misato Katsuragi's Mind." We still get plot points -- Adam is in Central Dogma, Nerv (Ritsuko and Gendō) are hiding something from Misato... But the important things? (a) Misato feels like she's irresponsible, always running away, like Shinji, and she likes men who remind her of her father; (b) Shinji is passive and hasn't stopped learning to play the cello because "nobody told me to"; (c) Asuka is inventive and is also attracted to Shinji but hates herself because of that because she sees Shinji as too tame and submissive. She's right -- he's not wild. And she treats this as a demerit. (I think the whole kissing scene had a subtext of Asuka being disappointed because Shinji didn't take control, the way Kaji would have; so she basically smothered him to get a reaction, but he just put up with it. And she ends up running to the bathroom to gargle. Sheesh, Asuka. Do you feel like you know these people better already?
