I think you guys might have misunderstood some things. The clinic we saw in this episode is still part of the Rear Palace (Inner Court). Access to the Rear Palace is strictly controlled, and the vast majority of people there can't come and go as they wish (hence the big deal with the hair pin from season 1). This includes the ladies-in-waiting like Ailan. So Maomao took Ailan to the clinic in the Rear Palace, not the infirmary in the Outer Court. I don't know why Jinshi didn't take Maomao to the infirmary after the ep 19 incident, but I suspect it is because he wanted her to be close to him, where he and Suiren could keep an eye on her. He can just summon the doctors to his place after all, so why not? Also, Suirei would not have been able to enter the Rear Palace, as she was an Outer Court Lady, and wouldn't normally have permission to enter the Rear Palace which is part of the Inner Court. Therefore she would probably never have visited the clinic that we saw this episode either. Incidentally, since Maomao is now Jinshi's personal servant I believe she can come and go to the Rear Palace freely as she is technically employed by Jinshi in the Outer Court, but is assigned duties by him in the Rear Palace (Inner Court). When Jinshi asked if Maomao was not shown around when she first got there, they were talking about when she was kidnapped and sold to the Rear Palace (so before she met Jinshi), not when she became his personal servant after he fired her from the Rear Palace. So there was no conspiracy there to keep things from her

2025-06-03 12:20:53 +0000 UTCSo these episodes show that Maomao is an unreliable narrator. She believes Gyokuyou has had one attempted poisoning but thats not true. In season 1 Gyokuyou's ladies in waiting are outside talking about trade in the west and mention a poison needle they found in Gyokuyou's dress. This is a different time than the food taster being paralyzed. However, Maomao was not there when the ladies in waiting were talking about it so she does not mention it because she doesn't know.
