We essentially get to watch the backstories of both Canute and Thorfinn before they both set out on their real main journeys. Interestingly, Yukimura (the manga author) said the series was initially meant to start with Arc 2 and just have everything in the prologue given to us through flashbacks, but his editor said it would be cool to make it a prologue rather than it be split up into flashbacks when needed. I’m much more happy he ultimately decided to give this beautiful part of the story it’s own arc. On to arc 2. An arc within the manga community that is considered to be one of the most beautiful and well written character arcs in manga/anime.
