This scene was definitely well done. This is only a small pebble of the hardships to come as they descend further. Reg was definitely very emotional here. At least they know not to fight an orb-piercer..

ben you cant love ozen for holding nothing back from children then suddenly shy away when the anime itself holds nothing back from you ;) This is the reality of the abyss. its a harsh place. rico would have died in the second layer to the corpse weaver if it wasnt for reg. actually she would have died just 200 meters down to the split jaw. rico is extremely vulnerable as a child. her gunho almost obliviousness of the dangers around her is very problematic for an explorer. the thing about the abyss is its probably alive in some way and if you look at the map, it really does look like some kinda pitcher plant. a giant trap for life. the deeper you go the harder it is to escape. but it entices you deeper with mysteries. its kinda funny watching your reaction because when i was i think 5 years old or so, this is going back a loooooong time ago, i watched a wonderful cartoon about rabbits called watership down. :D :D that shit traumatized the hell outta me. even stuff like the neverending story has some really dark content in it. maybe not so good for kids but i appreciate a show that doesnt treat us the viewers as babies to be coddled while still providing a great story. as a final point, i think that because the story, music, world, atmosphere is SO well done, the horror has to hit with the same level as the rest or else its effects would be diminished. so the scene is so brutal because the rest is so good.

This was the first time this anime made me genuinely feel despair and dread. I was so shocked to see Riko like that and it changed the whole tone of the show from there on out

Oh yeah there are a lot of details in this anime especially if you remember that the bleeding was supposed to be from all orifices. They didnt forget about that.

And the OST from Kevin Penkin is a masterpiece as well. ps: Make sure to watch in that order -> Season 1 (2017). 13episodes (ep 13 is 45min long) -> The movie "Made In Abyss : Dawn of the Deep Soul" (2019) 1h50min. It's the continuation of the main story, the direct sequel of season 1. (the 2 first movies are just recap of season 1) -> Season 2 (2022). 12 episodes (ep 12 is 45min long), the direct sequel of the movie.

The quality of this show ruined most other anime for me. There is nothing else like it from the music to the world building. The story and the endearing characters. Welcome to the Abyss! I recommend you watch the last episodes fairly quickly, to get the most fulfillment from the experience.

Been waiting on this. I think its also the fact that this is the first time you truly see how terrible the abyss is. Its jarring to see something this messed up but weirdly realistic cause that is literally what someone would go through in real life in that type of situation. The whole bone breaking and arm cutting process. I think a big part of it is also that they are basically kids and are portrayed as innocent kids. Reg lost his memories so he is basically as innocent as riko at this point in time. I would have a better time handling it if it were adults that have been matured and been through experiences and are more capable of handling things than children.
