Memory Snow isn't that important, but Frozen Bonds is a must watch.

ahhh the Wilhelm and Theresia scene does my heart in I was excited to see your reactions. Wonderful discussion in this episode as well.

Memory Snow takes place between episode 11 and 12 of the first season.

There are two OVAs before you start season 2 that are pretty important. First one is called "Frozen Bonds" and the second one "Memory Snow".

There is a season 2! And also a special episode called Frozen Bonds which is basically a small movie. I'd recommend watching that before season 2, though it's not 100% necessary.

If/When Emelia becomes Queen, she should 100% make Crushe head of the military

There is a season 2 and this March we got confirmation for season 3 which will cover the most action heavy arc (5) and the fan favorite arc that’s Peak Re:Zero arc (6) You can expect it around April/July next year Also there’s 2 ova episodes one is nice and wholesome and deepens the bonds between characters (memory snow) the other one is the backstory of Emilia and pretty important to understand her character better in season 2 (frozen bonds)

Man what i would do for a Re: Zero Ex anime which is a spin-off that includes Wilhelm's past more in detail.

Drathian

If you compiled the spinoff content published about Wilhelm's past, it would be just enough for a 12-episode anime adaptation.

You hit the nail on the head, that so many of the characters in Re:Zero give of the impression of having long histories and formative events of their own lives, of being the hero of the story from their own perspective. You could take almost any of them and spin them off into their own series. I think it was Mother's Basement who said that Re:Zero's main concept of a time loop lets you see all the side characters from multiple angles, as you see how each reacts differently based on minor deviations in the time loop. So while Subaru gets more character "growth" per se, the side characters don't get left behind, as they reveal almost as much of themselves through the different angles we get to see them from. Wilhelm's story for example, feels like such a substantial love story. We see so little of it but the tiny snippets we see, and what we see of Wilhelm's character, just hit hard. If Wilhelm went up against a hurricane, my money would be on Wilhelm, by sheer force of will alone. So seeing a love, a loss, and a catharsis that drives a man like that, is awe inspiring. He does not do things by halves.

It's impressive how often they get the small things right, I loved in this episode during the Wilhelm/Theresia fight when he knocks away her sword, and the shot is from a side view with Theresia on the left and Wilhelm on the right, with the sword falling behind Wilhelm showing that it's 'his' now (or more literally, the onus of having a reason to wield one is his now).

There are 2 novels dedicated to Wilhelm's past. Ex novel 2: The Love Song of the Sword Devil Ex novel 3: The Love Ballad of the Sword Devil They are phenomenal, i would recommend everyone that is interested to get them. Ex novel 1 too, its Crusch's backstory. "The Dream of the Lion King"

Their direction is top notch, and they do action well when it matters. Plus there aren't a lot of studios that will skip OPs and EDs as frequently as White Fox has for ReZero. Season 2 Part 2 I think the OP and ED play once or twice in that entire part lol.

The low angle shot of Young Wilhelm that fades into the shot of him walking towards the downed white whale gives me chills 100% of the time. White Fox doesn't do the best action scenes in the industry but I think they're one of the best at clever use of storyboarding and 'cinematography', there were so many clever shots in Steins;Gate too despite the shows animation being relatively low budget.

Jay Craig

there certainly is a season 2, this first season came out at the start of 2016 and season 2 finished up in 2021, and we where also given a teaser earlier this year for the third season but I've heard its a bit stuck in development, So buckle in for 25 episodes of season 2

Riley Hughes

Considering how very popular Re:Zero seems to be, that isn't surprising. I wonder if they'll be animated someday.

Merfhew

Young Wilhelm is the angsty sword wielding badass that so many young boys wanted to be early in life lol. Fun fact, Subaru notes in volume 1 of the LNs that the gravity in the world he is isekai'd to is lighter than that of Earth. It's probably how he is able to survive these falls and stuff, aside from anime logic.

ThaDoubleB

"I want to watch an entire spin-off season of young Wilhelm." Well luckily enough the author felt the same way, which is why there are multiple spin off novels with Wilhelm as the protagonist.
