Making revolutionary people paranoid is a great way to kill their movements and alienate them from their peers. That’s the purpose of a lot of the more outlandish conspiracy theories. If the conspiracies are focused on making people think the government is hiding “aliens” or whatever, it makes people less likely to focus on the true shady shit they are doing like displacing foreign governments, the rising fascism, the increasing wealth gap, etc
