IMPORTANT: Pallesia - Notification.
Added 2024-07-20 13:37:29 +0000 UTCLife has been... rough recently. I think I'm in need of a small break. Every time a Pallesia chapter is due, I sit and look at a blank page for an hour wondering what to write. It also doesn't help that I'm sick, basement flooded, and my mother isn't doing so well with the loss of her Aunt.
With the recent release of my Pokemon Fanfiction, which was originally just a side project to write for fun, a lot of things have crossed my mind when it comes to Pallesia. I've spent one and a half years writing Pallesia with hardly any breaks (One week for end of book 1 and one break for Christmas.) It's been roughly 40 days since I started writing New Beginnings, and it's already miles and miles ahead of Pallesia in every metric that I can track. It's demoralizing, but also good at the same time. On one hand, I'm happy that people enjoy my writing, but on the other hand... It was really a punch in the gut when it comes to all the effort I've put into Pallesia so far. A story I started on a whim two weeks prior had passed my hard work of one + years.
Hopefully, in a week or two, I'll be right as rain and ready and eager to write more for Pallesia, but currently I need a break. With this pause, the three buffer chapters (Pallesia is 13 chapters ahead at the moment.) will probably disappear.
If you'd like to ask questions or just keep in the loop, Discord is the place to be. I try my best to respond there in a timely manner.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for your understanding.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I feel like Pallesia was a great first attempt at writing, but because I was new, there's a lot of what you mentioned that's missing from New Beginnings. MC for Pallesia is lucky, did get things handed to him, the system I made wasn't well thought out and has severe issues, the general writing (Tenses, perspective, etc.) is very very poor at the start, and other debilitating factors. Also, I think I just know now that I can do better. I personally feel like Pallesia is a stain on my credentials. The story itself is good, the execution is poor. It taught be a lot about writing, which is all showcased into New Beginnings. There's a few New Beginning chapters which aren't super well done, but nothing nearly as egregious as some of the decisions made in early Pallesia.

2024-08-14 16:14:51 +0000 UTC[Spoilers] I want to clarify, at least in my opinion, that just because the fanfic might reach more people doesn’t mean it will hold them. I’ve put down every poke fanfic within the first couple chapters because they don’t hold my attention - either the story is dull or the writing itself isn’t strong enough. Or a variety of other reasons. Most just fall flat to me. I’m looking for good stories, not just ‘another story’ to satisfy my cravings for pokemon. Actually, till now, only BoC kept my attention enough for me to follow avidly. And let me just say I am so happy that Lessgently isn’t foreshadowing the MC falling romantically in love with his chipmunk or his bird… Nurse Joy and Cici are great love interests, we’ll see if it’s one or the other, or one then the other, or neither! I’m already asking myself many questions about his world, I love the premise, and I’m excited to see where LessGently takes it. And this isn’t just “oh look another world of pokemon”; it’s base building, farming, breeding, caretaking, etc. The shuckles personality melts my heart. There’s good tension, I want that place to be defended! I’m already in love with the snorlax (forget the pre-name sorry lol). His other pokemon are great. The teddiursa are great. I’m not rolling my eyes at his luck, everything seems well crafted. The character building in general is really good. I’ll also eventually end up checking out this other work of Lessgently, but regardless, the point of this comment is to say this story isn’t just taking off because it’s a fanfic, rather because you’re writing is good. And I haven’t checked out you’re other work yet but sounds to me like this is how it goes! The other story has helped you to write this one and whatever future stories you right. Or maybe you’ll take the route of re-doing some of your first story with more expertise. I’m excited for you. Don’t forget that!

2024-07-20 15:35:26 +0000 UTCBreaks are good. Otherwise we find ourselves 5 years later in a mental ward having tea party’s with pokemon plushies in a padded room. I will be here supporting you in whatever you decide to do.

2024-07-20 14:29:35 +0000 UTCAs James has pointed out, fan fictions tend to reach a much greater audience. They don't need to have any particular 'thing' going on for them either, they just work through nostalgia and self-insert feelings leading to greater immersion. Still, one of the main things I appreciate about your writing has always been that you put thought into how you can make your characters believable. As such, I'd prefer you taking time to get your plans and ideas straight instead of just falling into a loop of writing 'filler' chapters with either no real content progression or no original ideas of yours. I also think the same goes for pretty much everyone here. Take as much time as you need!

2024-07-20 14:28:35 +0000 UTCI very much agree with this. Pallesia has a lot of issues that i'm forced to write with from priotr decisions. (System/class/profession stuff). It was my first time writing, so there are issues for sure. It's just very frustrating when writing this new pokemon fic and gliding through the words like a hot knife through butter, then swapping to Pallesia and knowing I have so many limitations on what I have to work in. Sorting through priotr chapters to make sure I can do what I want, etc. I'm hoping this break gives me some time to recover and get ahold of some of the issues it has at a core level.

2024-07-20 13:54:18 +0000 UTCBurn out happens to us all. A break is a good idea. As to the popularity some of it I think is you are a better writer now. Almost 2years of practice show in difference between the first chapter of the stories. A little disappointing but a good thing to have more polished skills!

2024-07-20 13:50:33 +0000 UTCI love the characters, the plot, the imagery, everything about this story. You should take breaks, rest and recharge! We all appreciate your skills! It would make sense that it would take off. Pokémon has a huge fan base, so take heart.
