The Baggywrinkles

We've had another friend visit us in the Sea of Cortez - it's the wonderful Nic, of Argonaut II fame!

Nic and Joe have been making "Baggywrinkles". Do you know what these bizarre-looking things are for? I'd like at least a few ridiculous answers please 😅

something to do with "anti-chafing"?

Randy Lockett

Baggywrinkle. A very cold scrotum. A frequent occurrence sailing in Scotland…

Crispin Best

Semi-seriously, they look like a fairly sustainable form of packaging filler. As long as you make them from hemp rope. Side business? Feather boa for the Dutchess?

Hello it a great pleasure to meet you on here 😊

You hang them from the spreaders, and under the right weather conditions they light up brilliantly with St. Elmo's Fire, and at the same time protect against lightening strikes to the mast.

Danthrax

Those are for people who can't get lei'd.

Matt Fish

At least you'll not need the Sudocreme for all that chafing.... Oooh Err Misses.

Mike Hughes

obviously hand-knitted toilet paper christmas tree decorations. Tis the season!

We had a guest on Schooner Adventure (Gloucester Massachusetts) who asked one of the other volunteers what they were. He looked up and said something like, "Oh no! We keep cleaning that stuff off and it keeps growing back.". Then he explained what the baggywrinkles were really for. Jay

Everyone knows that those are the skins of a giant hairy caterpillar. What they don't know is that if it weren't for sailing vessels, the seas would be covered in the things!

These must be to clean the hull before someone gets a “light” keelhauling. 😉
