EP210. sailing Tally Ho ALONE for the first time!

In this episode I attempt to sail Tally Ho singlehanded. Hoisting the mainsail is the first big challenge - that thing is heavy! I navigate through the Gulf Islands, dodging ferries and buoys, and then get myself in a tangle when I have to drop all the sails.

Well done, Leo, that solo trip must have been anticipated with equal amounts of confidence and trepidation! A suggestion, would it be possible to mount two reasonable-sized sheaves (open would be fine) quite low on the main mast so the lines for the Mainsail could be run forward to the Capstain? It seems daft to me that you are struggling to hoist two lines for the sail when you have a purpose-made device sitting there merely holding a chain still, when a double wrap and it would haul those lines without the danger of a slip and a sail-drop. The purists would call that lazy, I know, but then again so is me using my Kenwood chef to grate cheese!

Nicely done - impressed that you weren't apparently using an autopilot to hold to windward for raising the sails (obviously works on TH) On our Friendship Sloop we hove to for atleast the main work and reefing. I actually liked the authentic camera work (and grunting) 😁
