New idea for this Patreon

Hey everyone, I've been thinking about this page for a while and wanted to get your thoughts on something.

I've become uncomfortable with the idea of taking money from viewers on a monthly schedule when my schedule is so ambiguous. I always feel like I'm letting people down during months like this last one where I couldn't get a main video out. I also haven't been able to produce as much Patreon-exclusive/bonus content as I'm sure a lot of people had hoped.

While some of you might not mind at all and just want to support, and I very much appreciate that, it makes me feel a little uneasy, and in turn makes it hard for me to promote this Patreon since it's basically "help me pay my living expenses for the month and maybe I'll get a video out".

My new proposition instead is super simple: watch my videos early and completely ad/sponsor-free for just $1 per video. No more, no less. It's a tangible transaction that I can obviously keep up with, and a really straightforward value proposition for viewers, rather than the more nebulous "support me" approach that it is today.

What do you guys think? Do you have a preference either way, or any other thoughts about this?

For me, I rwatch your videos fairly often so it's more like I'm supporting you & your body of work as a whole than specifically paying to help fund new stuff. So it never really matters to me if new stuff releases each month, I'm getting value anyway.

Paul Douglas

Leave my damn name in the videos! I don't care about how often I just love supporting you!

Derrick Reed

I'd prefer per video but I guess it doesn't matter that much

Aleksandras Ševčenko

Eh, being able to pay for a year at a time is more convenient for me, but If you really want to go to per video for your comfort, I am fine with that, too👍

rifter

I would say to keep it monthly but you've expressed you're uncomfortable with that. So yes, per video is the best option

IoI xD

Wouldn't make a difference to me, the money I have pledged to you is to support you, not anything else, so if monthly makes it easier for you, that's where it should be

Jonas Strand

Keep monthly my dude. We know when we sign up for this stuff that video frequency can vary sometimes. You’re a one man show, not a full scale production. SH*windows 98 explicit sound effect here* happens. Just have fun with it. Because when you have fun, you’ll put out your best work. Don’t do it for us, so it for you.

Kyle Badaloni

its all a process, getting a video out can take a long time and if you can’t then one month the money goes toward the next, we’re paying you for you; not just your videos, keep doing the quality work you do now

Olivia Iacovou

Just so you know, Patreon lets you put a monthly limit on your pledge when it's per creation. So you can set it so that you only spend $1/month at most. If no video is made during the month, you don't pay anything, and if there's one or more videos in the month, you still only pay $1.

Personally, I don't consider my pledge like a salary. I'm not your boss, I'm not expecting you to deliver a certain amount of work each month. I pledge because I enjoy your content, past, present and future, and I *do* want to help you pay your living expanses for a month regardless of what you produce during that month. That being said, I've seen creators on Patreon switch to per creation despite people saying they were fine with monthly, because they felt like it put much less pressure on themselves and they just felt better doing it that way. So if you strongly feel you prefer to do it like that then I don't think anyone will mind. But do it for yourself, not for us. Also, there's also some creators who prefer to simply pause their Patreon for a month or two when they feel they can't deliver anything for a while. That may be an option if you prefer. So, yeah, personally I'm perfectly fine with monthly, but you should really just do what is best for you as a creator. We'll stand behind you no matter what.

Thibaut Renaux

Monthly for me too. I support you as a creator. I really don't mind the wait. Quality over quantity.

Nick Bouwhuis

I really dont mind my guy. If it makes you more comfortable to take donations per-video, I'm sure most people would be okay with that. As you're not throwing out loads of videos, it'll probably be less money than a monthly sub.

AmpSmashed Music

This!! I completely agree :)

Damnsparce

Monthly. Most of your payments are monthly and it‘s just a bit of added stability for you.

Manawyrm

Monthy.. and I’ll tell you why. Half the time I don’t even watch the early video when you post it. By the time I get around to watching it, it’s already on youtube. I’m giving you this $1 month because I personally want to give you the money. The content you make is worth the $1 a month and even more than that. I’m not on your Patreon really for the benefits at all. I’m here just to support you

Caiden Kindred

Personally I like monthly; I subscribe to Patreon pages because I want to support them :D Plus, the $1 a video style is much harder to budget for. If you happen to make 10 videos in a month, that’s $10 kinda thing

Aaron Carson

Keep it monthly. I'll decide when you're output isn't worth 3$ a day, not you. You just do you, act in good faith like you already do, and it'll be up to me and my wallet if it's worth it or not.

Bo

I understand how you feel, but monthly is so easy. Like I just give you money because I love your content. Small YouTubers deserve stuff like this when the produce good content. So I love your stuff. Keep it up

Weslyn

I don’t mind contributing monthly. It’s difficult, I’m sure, getting parts, and putting in all the work to get the video edited. I hope that whatever the result of this poll is that you get the support you need to continue making great videos ❤️
