Bowsprit!

We are using AWLWOOD to finish our spars, which is a more modern product than we are using elsewhere. Although it's a bit more technical to apply, it should be much more chafe-resistant and last for far longer without maintenance, which is especially useful for spars - they are harder to access and more likely to have lines running over them.
There are plenty of other great ways to protect spars of course, such as oil or paint or traditional spar-varnish. However the spruce used for most of our spars is so soft that chafe could be a real concern, and this finish should add another layer of protection that will hopefully prolong their life.
