Developer Log #2

So on this weeks Developer log I’m going to touch on the subject of netorare or NTR as it is more commonly known.
 

Such a hot topic, a subject that completely polarises those who play adult VN games. The mere hint of it in a game is enough to have the banner rise and a game thread devolve into an argument over what NTR is or is not.
 

I think it might be worth pointing out the differences between Netorare or Netori. Quite simply Netorare is when a boyfriend, girlfriend, wife or husband cheat on their significate other. The person being cheated on may never find out or the act of cheating may never be shown. This is not cuckolding.
 

Netori is when the main protagonist forces a love interest into a relationship, that they then come to prefer causing them to break up with their partner. This is a form of cuckolding.
 

Both terms tend to get roped into the abbreviation of N T R, even though they mean very different things and they are intended to produce different feelings in the reader / player.
 

So why all the hate? Jealousy, Simple as that. The feeling of loosing a Love interest to someone else stirs up feelings of inadequacy in the way that you play the game, for some players they like this as a fetish. For many others they want to play a game of fantasy.
 

Part of that fantasy is that all women will want to be with them in the role as the main protagonist. Is this wrong? No, of course not. When I play an adult game, I want to project a better version of myself. The situations that arise would likely not happen in real life, thus it plays to our fantasy.
 

So how does this relate to Dreams of Reality? There are scenes within this game that deal with cheating. The actions you take towards Louise will have consequences. In fact, every action you take has a consequence. Some more dramatic than others.
 

Push Louise away and she will break up with you, this is normal behaviour, does this mean she goes off and jumps on the nearest guy she finds, no, of course not. You have developed a long relationship – she won’t be over it so quick. However, there will be antagonists in the game that will attempt to move in on your action. How much though, depends on you and your choices.
 

Playing Dreams of Reality you will never see any love interest getting nailed by anyone other than yourself. But, however, when playing a game that is based on true events (albeit heavily embellished) it’s not beyond the realms of possibility to work out just what could happen if you act like a jerk to someone and still expect them to remain a love interest.
