Matt's new collab

Little distortion issues caused by a random plugin. Distortion happens on the sides more than the mid. So have a double check what plugin is doing that.

Next, music lives in the mids so try to see if your sub bass is actually working in that mid range. If it doesn't consider a duplicate and using that distortion plugin on it.

1. Yep, copy the sub (make duplicate). Distort that a bit EQ out low end and maybe a bit of top end so that it's heard in the mids. 2. Well, a general tip to get the perfect bass level is to slowly put up the sub level when your entire track is playing back. So if you find it hard just turn down the sub bass completely and after just turn it up till the track feels warm enough. One step further is to a/b with a reference track that is playing back at roughly the same level. If you do the last thing make sure your own playback level is also not stupid loud but your general level you listen to music too ;)

Great analysis, thank you! A few questions: 1) Are you suggesting copying the sub and then adding distortion, essentially making a new track and mixing that layer into the existing track... or just putting distortion on the sub itself? I do agree it feels out of place. 2) Do you have any tips on general level for the bass bus? I'm finding I tend to make the bass too loud in my mixes. Like how you reference the kick at -6, -7db ish. that helped me with my drums a lot.
