Because I often struggle to have a good mix as I produce a song, I developed a different method if it can help. From my own experience , as producers we tend to over use plugins or effects on tracks and we hesitate to delete them later because we're scared of "losing that sound" (at least it's the case sometimes for me). So what I do, I group all the plug ins together and I turn them off (so I still have the chain in case and no cpu usage) and restart the producing and mixing process trying to make it as simple as possible. I try to delete all unnecessary plug ins, over complicated use of an effect (especially EQ), over processing, etc and replace plug in if one will really do a better job. For example, delay by echo boy, boost bass with eq 8 with a pultec eq (in your case isotope eq, etc. What usually happens I end up with less processing, the mixing process is way simpler and most important it sounds better when I compare with the original chain. In regard to CPU usage, it's fine because I freeze track as I go. It's also a good way to learn from your mistake (over processing, wrong order of plug ins in the chain) and get used with the idea of "less is more". I hope it helps :-)
