Tips on getting "in" with labels

Tips on getting "in" with labels

haha the self promotion seems akin to prostitution, the playing feels like a monkey performing and kills the artistry, in theory its great to be famous go to parties get easy cats, all the dudes wanting to be on your jock, in practice, quite annoying, no? better to stay home and produce and keep the music to yourself, lol

From my personal experience, in the EDM scene - DMs work (From label owners to A&R guys everyone replies, you just have to start with a friendly topic, music related but not all about you - talk about some shared interest), the other way, attend shows / festivals - I've met some great people from the scene (they will come down from stage, have a beer, easy to talk to, afterparty hours great time too!), also I ran instagram ads on certain cities with a targeted audience and had many club owners DM me about playing at their venues (Paris, etc) just because they liked the music, I had TV guys from my hometown invite me for interviews, even though I didn't have many releases. Regarding big scenes like pop, hip hop, etc with big major lables, from personal experience, you have to start making friends with the less known people in the circle you are interested in - songwriters, engineers, etc then from there contact someone higher up the chain, and just introduce yourself as (Hi I'm a friend of X, he talks great things about you...) you get the idea
