Futurama is a funny show.

2025-09-13 15:37:50 +0000 UTCThat piece of music is very well known and has been used in several places to emote "dramatic fighting" when it plays. I have not seen The Cable Guy but I remember it being used in an episode of Futurama when Doctor Zoidberg has to fight for a mate on his own planet. If I remember correctly from all of those years ago, I think Zoidberg cuts off Fry's arm who then picks it up and beats the Doctor with it in annoyance. I did find one review of the man who composed it who was called Gerald Fried. The review also said: "A cue that when heard, if the listener is familiar with its provenance, will instantly conjure up images of flying drop kicks, ear claps and judo chops. "Veteran composer Gerald Fried had written scores for Stanley Kubrick (The Killing and Paths of Glory) and had an established reputation for providing quality material for TV, having notably provided incidental music for numerous episodes of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Fried wrote the music scores for five episodes of the first season of Star Trek. "Today you will find YouTube videos of cats fighting and people struggling to put out their bins, with this track playing in accompaniment. It reminds me that music was a far more prominent aspect of TV shows back in the sixties and seventies and that a lot more time and effort was spent on writing a score. So grab a Lirpa, rip your T-Shirt at the shoulder and do some forward rolls. It’s time to fight!"

2025-09-13 14:53:34 +0000 UTCTrivia time: The actress that plays the T'Pau was Celia Lovsky. She was married to Peter Lorre, and they left Nazi Germany in the early 1930s. (Lorre was Jewish.) And, the actress who played the Vulcan high priestess in the 1984 movie, Dame Judith Anderson, was born in the same year as Lovsky: 1897. So in Trek productions, both high Vulcan female leaders were born in the 19th century.
