Awesome tutorial, one thing I tried was duplicating and instancing this but no matter how many times I duplicated it, the materials and colors are changed for each copy. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to realize each set of instances? Even making a copy and mirroring it on the global axis gave me different colors but mirrored all the objects properly. I could just make a much larger and more complex one to do what I want to do, dunno thought it was just weird.

With the random value node: A float, is a floating point decimal value, so 1.0 or 4.2345. An integer is a whole number, so values like 1, 2, 55. The instance index gives each instance a whole number value so you can address them. Instance 1, 2, 3, and so on. So, setting the random value node to integer, that tells the random node to only use whole number that can directly address the instance's number value. Trying to use a float, it would attempt to try and get an instance number like 1.245, which doesn't exist.
