There are some interesting reports from allied pilots when they first encountered German jets during the last days of World War II. Sure, nowhere near those "modern" fighter jets, but none the less ahead of their time, so to speak. They were more prototypes than anything else, but if they had focused on those kinds of fighters earlier on, the fight for air superiority could have been different. As far as I know, Germany was already not even able to provide them with enough fuel to make a serious attempt, and they probably could not do anything other than fly faster. Which is important, but shows that a lot of additional development would have been necessary.

2024-04-11 21:52:08 +0000 UTCSo that ship was about 40 year ahead of the fleet coming and the key was can one ship 40 years back in time hold off the fleet. However something to think about is this was made in 1979 and came out in 1980. It has now been about 45 years from when this was made. Would a ship from our time hold up vs say the US navy from 1979?
