Russia-Ukraine Flash Report 10 MAY 2023 08:00 PDT - Storm Shadow is in Ukriane
Added 2023-05-11 15:08:15 +0000 UTCUnited Kingdom Defense Secretary Ben Wallace announced to the House of Commons that Ukraine has been provided with air-launched Storm Shadow Shadow cruise missiles with a range of more than 250 kilometers.
During his statement, Wallace revealed that in December 2022 he wrote a letter to Russian Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu warning that continued attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure would result in the UK transferring, "more capable weapons."
At the time the letter was sent, Russia was attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure on a weekly basis, sparking a effort by NATO and Western allies to bolster Ukrainian air defense and aid in making the power grid more resilient. Russia's campaign ultimately failed and ended on March 9, 2023.
Wallace added that the missiles have been updated by a joint team of technicians and engineers to make the UK/French Storm Shadow missile compatible with Ukraine's Soviet-era Air Force.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov insisted longer-range missiles would not be used to attack targets within Russia itself.
