You're not kidding about the space base game...wish there was something out there that gave off this vibe. Unfortunately all of the current ones have some kind of limitation that prevents such system wide immersion like the world of The Expanse!

Space Engineers is great if you like building/crafting things (Minecraft but with space ships), Hardspace Shipbreaker is really great for a chill game (take ships apart in zero g, great soundtrack too), FTL (rougelite, small crew, just trying to survive), Dead Space (Horror game, in a giant scifi industrial mining ship).
