The Mentalist 3X11: Bloodsport
Added 2025-08-29 18:00:15 +0000 UTCSo Rigsby is at an MMA fight (I think with a date who is way more into it than he is) when one of the concession people finds a dead body shoved into a locked in the arena. Apparently, she was writing a book about MMA and the two guys who were fighting during this match. But, since both guys were fight, they are initially ruled out as suspects.
The guy who one was concerned about it and claimed she was a nice girl, but the guy who lost is a jackass, enquiring if she was raped since she was kinda hot. What the fuck, dude?
Anyway, we find out the gun had been used in another murder back in 2001 (I think) and they guy who used it, just got out of prison. So we head over to see him and he claims he gave it some girl. So, we go talk to her and she claims she gave it to her brother and he died. But, she actually gave it to some guy in a motorcycle club (?) and he claims he lost it at an actual club. (Who loses a gun?)
Lisbon and Jane go to talk to the dead girl's dad and he seems devastated. It turned out, she took after him and went into journalism. She kept a zillion notebooks, so we take them for research, assuming she found out something that someone didn't want to get out. But, while they are there, the dad has a heart attack and ends up in the hospital, unconscious.
The fight promoter is a douchebag (which made it seem like too obvious of a suspect, but I was wrong, apparently), but swears up and down that fight fixing is not a thing. If you are caught, you are thrown out forever and no one wants to face that penalty. When Jane is chatting with one of the trainers, he suggests taking another look at Manny (the fighter who one- who was nice about the dead girl).
Something happened and we find out the time of death was wrong, so now the fighters are back in play as suspects. Lisbon brings them to headquarters. Manny brings his wife, and the asshole brings an entourage. While questioning Manny, Lisbon sort of dances around the idea of him having an affair with the dead girl. And the wife pipes up that he sleeps with a lot of people. He's a professional athlete. It's not his fault he can't keep it in his pants, it's the girls. They should know better. What? Lady.
Jane is busy doodling in one of the notebooks. He pretends it's some kind of short hand that dead girl's father taught her and as soon as he's awake, he'll translate and we'll know what was important enough to kill her over. So he and Lisbon head to the hospital to see who comes to try to kill the dad. It's one of the guys who hangs out with the promoter, no idea what his title is.
And the truth finally comes out. Manny is a big name. And he wins big money. So we need him to fight, but at his last test, they found out he's got some kind of spine issue making fighting off limits since it could kill him. Dead girl found out that tried to tell since the guy was literally gonna die, but instead of losing out on the money he could bring them, they killed her. We also end up arresting douchebag promoter for getting the gun to the murderer.
Outside of all of the Grimace Guy (he'll be GG going forward) is still talking to people about the cop killer who died in custody. He confronts Rigsby about his arson knowledge and he claims he could have done it, but didn't. Then he starts asking about his dad, who seems to be a career criminal. Rigsby claims they have no contact and leaves.
But then it's Cho's turned to talk to him, and Rigsby has to tell him the truth. He had to come up with an alibi for his dad years ago or he was going to do 20 years in prison. And he claimed that Cho was with him. So now he's either got to lie for him, Rigsby loses his job and his dad probably goes to jail. In the meeting with GG, Cho claims he was with Rigsby and his dad on the night in question. He doesn't remember what they did, but swears he was there. He tells Rigsby he lied for him, but things are kind of frosty between them right now.
