Babylon 5 3x15 Reaction

Comments

That's what Delenn did after Dukhat died.

DS9 morphed- it started only semi or loosely serialized, and started becoming a single story in the last 2-3 seasons. Great sets, poeple, acting fun show, I cant recall being gut punched by it like I was bab5 because it was TV and the actors are at the whim of the series vs the storyline. B5 started from day one as completely serialized, grittier, much less the fantasy you could get tomorrow and much more likely the one we will get.(sadly)

Lando, never make a major decisions after a death.

Reed James

Clint - watch the next two as a series then go smoke a cigarette.

Sorry, but DS9 doesn't come even close to the quality of B5. As for today's scifi being bad, at present there isn't much around, except Andor and The Peripheral, both better than DS9 , but still on their first season. Before that, but after DS9, you obviously missed The Expanse, which is many levels above DS9 as well. Fringe is another show way better, there are many examples.

Both DS9 and Babylon 5 are like 2 perfectly cooked steaks. The marbling is different, and the cuts aren't identical, but you're getting just as much meat with both. They're also both even more de-li-cious compared to the quality of science fiction. Today you mostly get thin, low fat fast fry steaks or cuts past their expiry date that was rubbed off the package and cook anyway - only to get sick to your stomach.

This episode was epic. The first time we truly get to see the Vorlons in action. As for DS9, my brother loved it but I could never get into it. It felt slow and boring like B5 Season 1 to me. The big DS9 battles were fun to watch but Star Trek blatantly started to copy and tap into B5's style and success after a while. Species 8472 in Voyager were a blatant rip-off of the Vorlons. The huge DS9 fleet battles were also unheard of in Star Trek until they started doing them in B5 so it feels like a bit of a copy to me. Imo, DS9 only had more fans because of its Star Trek license, and everyone knows Star Trek. B5 had to build a fan base from scratch. I also find the scripts, character depth, and acting in B5 to be out of ST's league. I found the scripts and characters in DS9 comparatively wooden and lacking in charisma. There's no DS9 Character that can hold a candle to Londo Malari or G'Kar and Cisco lacks the passion and Charisma of Cpt. Sheridan.

Great episode. Agreed, the two are very different shows. Erm, not sure that are initial reactions to Franklin's decision aline much though. That was the only sensible choice he could make in that situation I would think. Surely nobody would want a habitual drug user for a practicing doctor, at level. I do agree the running away approach is also problematic and not as preferable as facing the issue and fully asking for help. But surely he couldn't remain a working doctor at the moment.

No hate, but the way B5 builds, weaves, and delivers the storyline is simply masterful. DS9 was good but the main plotline about Cisco felt a bit hokey. I guess I'm spoiled by JMS!

I second this. It's THE two-parter to end ALL two-parters!

You might want to watch the next 2 together

DS9 and B5 are just.....different. The similarities are surface level for the most part. I think the whole "rivalry" sort of gets people to naturally settle in their camps, especially for DS9 fans who think Star Trek is the only game in town. Watching either show doesn't mean you're betraying the other. This episode is a fan favorite. So much has been set up here that I won't even attempt to dance around. Just keep watching. Also, as said before, next is a two-parter. You MUST see them together. I'd love to see you do a super reaction of them in one shot!
