The Mentalist 3X7: Red Hot
Added 2025-08-20 20:33:09 +0000 UTCI'm sad that this wasn't one of my favorite episodes either. I don't know if it's because I hate the fact that Walter and Lisbon hooked up, or for some other reason.
Anyway, we're called to a helicopter business for a threat. Not even a murder and Patrick is not happy. It's, like, 5am and he doesn't even get a dead body. The security guard comes out and tells us that the owner received a death threat. Then Walter rolls up (remember Walter?) and apparently, he's buying the company, but the dude doesn't want to sell, so he want to make sure the deal gets done.
Once they are in the building, Walter, the seller (wig guy) and I think one of the security guys head into an office. Walter ducks back out to flirt with Lisbon and, while he's doing that, a bomb explodes in the office. This seems to make Walter the sole survivor.
Everyone (me included) assumes Walter is the suspect at first. After they meet with wig guy's widow, they find out she and Walter used to be engaged. But she claims it's all fine on that front now. After inspecting the house, Jane finds what he needed and tells Cho it's time to leave.
They also find out that some other guy was buying up shares of the business to take over and had a thing against both Walter and wig guy. So, we try to look into him but he's a total recluse and never seems to leave his house. But Walter tells Jane he's got a thing for dead celebrity memorabilia, so he heads to an auction and spends $300,000 (or some crazy amount of money) on the door to James Dean's death car. He then tells Walter to have a party, which lures out recluse guy to see the piece.
Also, at the party, Lisbon and Walter end up almost kissing and his ex girlfriend tries to attack Lisbon with a knife, so she's immediately arrested. At the station she claims that she loves him and she likes to prove it to him and eventually, he'll love her again. It's very stalker-like. But they find pictures on her phone of Walter with wig guy's security guy. They start to, again, think that he planned this. He claims it was just regular corporate espionage (that sounds like it should get him locked up right there) and has nothing to do with this.
Jane brings the widow along to Walter's house for the Jane plan, and as soon as they get there, Walter punches Jane in the face and takes off in his car. They track down the car and find an address (of sorts) in it. It leads them to an airplane hanger where we see one guy sneaking around with a gun, and one guy just sneaking around.
Gun guy is wig guy. He only pretended to blow himself up so he could leave the country and take all his money with him. Jane figured it out when his wigs were missing from the house. A dead guy wouldn't need his extra wigs. (I mean, maybe he just tossed some and didn't get replacements yet?). Somehow the widow was in on it (I remember her handcuffed walking through the station, but I don't remember what she did).
And then Lisbon decides it's a great idea to sleep with Walter. It's not. She should have gone with her first instincts of him. I don't like him.
