Okay so Jane is a fake horse whisperer. Fun. We've got a dead jockey and now we've got to figure out who did it. Shocking. On the dead guy we find a napkin with the words 'forgive me' and an engagement ring.
We track down the location the napkin came from the bartender says she knows the guy. He tried to get her to give both of those items to her to leave for the hostess, his ex girlfriend, but she refused. Apparently, she was afraid of him and started switching her shifts so he couldn't find her.
When we track her down, she feels terrible. She thinks she should have stayed to help him. Several years ago, he got suspended from being a jockey for an accident in a race. And he just got hired again. He was so happy. But, on the way to their celebration dinner, they got in a fender bender and he beat the other guy so badly, she broke up with him.
They then talk to the jockey who is taking the dead guy's place, thinking maybe she offed him to get the spot, but she's visibly upset and scared, but won't say anything. So, Jane is ready with a set up. Some guy shows up and tells her not to ride for the ranch she's with or what happened to the dead guy might happen to her. Of course, Jane shows up and Lisbon arrests him. Turns out, the owner of a rival stable paid him to scare people off.
The horse we're all excited about is a twin. And on race day, Jane bets big on him and alludes to the owner that he switched him out for the other horse. He's pissed because he already switched him out. Long story short, the dead guy was asked to switch them and he refused, so the owner killed him. Jane (sort of) gets him to confirm that while at the race track. And then he takes off. The whole team is in pursuit, but eventually, Grace (who has been so bored this episode) tackles him.
Jane bet 10K on the horse, but they figure out the twin raced, so all the bets were invalid. Sad. I feel like if he'd have won that money, he would have given it to someone worthy.
