Stargate SG1 1x1 Reaction

Comments

I actually think this pilot comes in three parts. There's the pilot movie itself but the first episode after that actually finishes the introduction and sets the stage for the rest of the show.

I almost didn't realize that this wasn't the original airing till after I realized one of the best quotes from the first time hammond and Oneil meet wasn't there, then I noticed a lot of cute dialoge

This is my second favorite Sci-Fi show after B5, of course. I'm so glad Kurt Russell isn't in it. I always hated him. No humor, just this dumb one-dimensional U.S. military jar head. No thanks. The movie could have done without him, RDA on the other hand is one of the reasons I like the show. His sense of humor makes it fun to watch. People call his quotable moments "O'Neillisms" and there is usually one or two in every episode. The connection to the movie is just so you don't feel lost. It will eventually fizzle out. The show is a good show from the first season, for it to become an awesome show that is worthy of being on air for 10 seasons plus spin-offs, you'll have to give it a few seasons. James Spader is one of the best actors alive, but he wouldn't be the right one for this role. Michael Shanks was a great choice.

What WILL surprise you with further viewing is that Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks own those characters from the movie. You'll eventually think of THEM instead of the original actors. Glad you're coming back to it later on :)

I just realized one of the scenes they edited out is one that is VERY important. During that last fight, right before they go through the gate, the goau'ld in one of the fallen Jaffa pops out and manages to get into Kowalski. That leads right into the next episode, I have no idea why they cut it. Also, notice every time Teal'c shot a Jaffa, he aimed for the stomach to destroy the symbiote, which would prevent that very thing. He has a lot of experience fighting his own kind.

You got the PG 13 pilot they remade some of it. As this show came out on showtime and they pushed to have lots of nude women in the show. After this one they dropped having anyone nude in the show. One other thing they removed was a line when they 1st go and she sees the DHD. She tells them it took all this stuff to jury rig the gate to work. The old line was " to MacGyver it" as a small Easter egg to Richard Dean Andersons last roll in McaGyver. I think they had to remove it due to copyright stuff.

I was wondering which version you'd get. The original, which aired on Showtime, actually had full frontal nudity when Sha're is brought before Apophis. The creators later admitted they thought that was a mistake, it was just thrown in at the demands of the network. And we have Rick Anderson when his hair is still brown. They make a number of MacGuyver jokes throughout the show. SG-1 does have the Season One Syndrome, in that it seems shaky and unsure of itself at first, but it does eventually run ten seasons. O'Neill's dry comments can pull you through a lot in my opinion.

Thanks! I must have mixed them up. I was think he married her and was partners with Lexa 🤦🏻‍♀️ both are on SG1 too lol!

Mel Strobel

They weren't actually married, they just had a child together. Michael has only been married once and that's to Lexa Doig.

Now that I’ve had a chance to watch this- it’s interesting because I’ve seen 2 or 3 different versions of the Children of the Gods. I don’t think this was my favorite version as it cut out some lines I liked and added some I didn’t think were necessary. Fun fact though- the actors for Daniel and his wife were married in real life. I’m glad to hear that no matter which show you choose first, you’ll be watching all of them because SG1 gets way better. I do hope you choose Farscape first though!! 😇 Thanks for another great reaction!

Mel Strobel

So excited to watch this!!

You're about to embark on a really great voyage. The Stargate franchise is among my top three sci-fi shows. The others are Babylon 5 and Star Trek (the Roddenberry universe, that is)
