Babylon 5 3x5 Reaction

Comments

“Sinclair’s girlfriend ran into one of those.” Funny you should mention that… No need to rush? Lady, you’re the one who got naked as soon as the door closed! Ivanova don’t take crap from NO ONE!

Texas Anla'Shok

And yet, still a lens being cast on the rise of fascism.

Mara

And yes, it was Morden's voice.

While I didn't realize it was the same ship I did think it was the same planet.

Mega Reacts

Hope he didn't miss that was the same ship that drained Catharine's power, and almost made her crash and die, in season 1.

MrTickleTrunk

Yes, Sigma 957 is the planet, where Catherine Sakai saw this ship in 1x06 Mind War episode.

Oh I get that. That's a good argument. But it's the swift all at once execution that lowers it's effectiveness for me though. Narratively speaking it works as a bit of an exposition dump of 'all that's going on back home.' She comes off as more of a representative figure of a collective way of thinking, rather than a believable layered character. More of a caricature, indicative of 'the bad guys.' It does the job, but it's far from sophisticated writing that puts you in the mind of the enemy. Feels like too much of a short cut for me personally.

Daryl

Not a parody, a case study. And of Soviet Union.

Maarika

Most of the political officers were/are actually not so sinister. They were / are just as loud and kind of stupid really as this woman. Their mind works in very limited range. Often they themself believed the ideas they promoted. And that is the scariest people, because they are both manipulative and easily manipulated at the same time. Perfect ruthless tools for the regime.

Maarika

The second link worked great, thanks. :)

Amanda Williams

All fair points.

Mega Reacts

I'm gonna have go against the grain on this one. I'm gonna have to call 70-80% of the episode more than a bit lame honestly. Ironically right after you made that on point speech about great sci-fi not spoon feeding us but delivering us great story. There are some things I liked. The scene between Garibaldi and Allan was great and what I'd expect. I'm just not a fan of the Political officer. That was probably a tad over done with the deranged rhetoric and the more than desperate sexual overtures. For me it would have worked better, if she had had been more of a subtle and sinister character. This felt like chucking everything at the wall approach. The seeking out beings that are meant to be almost as old as the universe and tired of the younger races constant conflicts. Then employing passive aggressive reverse psychology on them. Much like someone might do as last ditch attempt to get an unruly teenager to do what they wanted them to do. And it seemingly works. Na, too much of this episode is just over the top. Personally I think the show is better than this. 🤣

Daryl

Processing is taking forever for some reason even with the new upload. I have uploaded the file to sync also and added a link in the description. Maybe this link will work for you.

Mega Reacts

I am relatively new to your channel and patreon. I do not comment much but I just wanted to say how much I am enjoying your reactions. Your perspective and honesty are great.

Dave Hampton

Processing time can be all over the place sometimes once I upload to google. I will reupload and see if it helps. You can still download the file if that's an option.

Mega Reacts

And these days it feels very up-to-date again, with mainstream media being 100% propaganda and social media companies working hand-in-hand with the intelligence apparatus to censor the shit out of things that go against the official narrative. "Disinformation Governance Board" totally made me think of the "Ministry of Peace" and "Nightwatch".

Benno Witter

It's still processing 9 hours after posting!

Amanda Williams

And just imagine, this was written almost 30 years ago as a parody of the rise of the fascists in the 1930s.

Mara

Posted 4 hours ago, but video is still processing :(

Amanda Williams

Bonus points for noticing the Soviet style posters in the room, the power creep and those so readily giving up their rights to the govt for safety... This one's been so fun. Aside from the crazy homeless talk I was right there with ya the whole way LOL This was very entertaining!

MrTickleTrunk

This is a great Ivanova episode. She is one of my favorite characters, so I definitely enjoyed her in this episode. Nice catch on the poster during the Night Watch meeting. I never noticed it before, but I agree with you. It fits in for seeing the use of a political officer onboard a military post. That always reminds me of the Soviet Union, even though I know they aren't the only ones to incorporate them. And that First One's ship. The size of it blows me away when I see it. The White Star may not be the largest ship, but it isn't a small ship either. Shuttles manage to dock within it. But it looked so tiny in comparison.

"... and wound up on Deep Space 9" Hahahahahahahaa *I'm dead* Man, never change LOL!!
