What the actual fuck? Are they serious? I'm so glad that I didn't give in and continued to blame Katherine for all the fucked up stuff she did in her life. The only glimmer of hope I see is that Caroline is usually able to tell with 'Elena' is 'Katherine' pretty quickly. Let's hope that track record continues.
So Katherine is busy dying. Stefan compels the doctors to let him take her home so she can die in comfort. Nadia is sure she can fix this, but Stefan tells her there is nothing that can be done, as all her organs are shutting down.
However, at the boarding house, everyone else is doing toast after toast to Katherine's impending death. No one has a single good thing to say about her (except Stefan, but he still has a lot of bad shit to say about her too). While Katherine is dying in bed, Damon is having a great time showing up in her memories and tormenting her.
Downstairs, the group has run out of booze, so Matt offers to go down to the basement and replenish. However, while he's down there, Nadia knocks him out, tosses him the Stefan safe, and buries him. She then goes back upstairs and tells the group she is saving her mom and if they don't help her, Matt is gonna die.
So, Elena and Stefan end up going to help her. She tells them that she is working on a spell to get Katherine's spirit info her body. But, the people who can teach her the spell, required her to bring doppelgängers. She didn't ask questions. Once in this creepy abandoned house, a bunch of Travelers start closing in and speaking Latin (?) at them. They insist they cut themselves and start to fill buckets with blood. This seems bad, but once they have enough blood, they just let them go.
Meanwhile, Caroline is trying to find where Matt is buried, but Klaus pops up. He's here because Katherine is dying, but he assures Caroline he hasn't killed Tyler. But, when he finds out they broke up because he chose revenge over her, he tells her he'll leave and never come back if she promises to tell her the truth about how she feel about him. And basically, she just pounces on him and they have sex up against a tree. Oh, but don't worry about Matt, he sent Rebekah to get him out.
Nadia heads back to the boarding house and sits with Katherine telling her how to do the spell to get in her body, but Katherine refuses. She claims it's time for her go. Stefan shows up and gives her a pleasant good bye vision.
Downstairs, while we're waiting for Katherine to finally die, Bonnie is playing anchor, passing along information from Vicki and Alaric, who are both there. Tyler shows up Caroline seems upset and maybe a little confused. But they don't really have any kind of reunion or anything. Then, suddenly, Bonnie sees Katherine appear, and everything thinks she's dead. But Katherine is shouting, no, it's not time! Then she disappears.
She wakes up in the bed where Elena is now watching over her. Elena tells her she was going to give a speech to her dead body, this is fine too. Katherine suggests it's all about how much of a bitch she is. Elena agrees but also tells her that she forgives her. Then Katherine grabs her and does that weird ass Travelers chant. Elena falls to the floor and Katherine dies (?). Shortly after, the phone rings, Elena picks it up and it's Nadia asking if everything worked out. And she says, 'She's Katherine, she's a survivor. Of course it all worked out.' Then she goes to the mirror and practices being Elena.
I mean, I assume Elena is not dead, but it really looked like she died after that spell was done. Also, this really, really felt like a season finale. It had to have at least been a midseason finale, right?
