Well everything's just gone to hell, hasn't it?
Okay, so Hope sees Jack driving down the road and flags him down. She asks him if he's spoken to Mel yet about the baby, and he claims he's on his way to do it right now. When he gets to Mel's for their breakfast pancake date, she's on the phone with Joey talking about great her night was with him (Joey meanwhile, is crying as he husband is trying to get possession of the dog- and possibly sleeping with his assistant).
Mel can tell something is up as soon as she hangs but, Jack lies and says his delivery guy got stuck (or something similar) so he's needs to go help out. She's a little disappointed, but they make plans for him to come over later that night.
When she gets to work, she sees that Doc has added her name to the sign (in paper, with a marker, but it's a start) and she's touched. Once inside though, her happiness fades. Hope immediately grabs her and tells her it's okay about the baby, they'll figure it out. Mel has no idea what she's talking about, since Jack didn't actually tell her like he told Hope he was going to do. So Hope tells her. Mel doesn't really say much, but excuses herself to go help a patient.
Hope runs around trying to find Jack so she can tell him what she did before Mel finds him. And he's pissed when she finally does find him. He threatens to cut her out of his life. He goes inside to get away from her and runs into Mel who's here to talk about the baby. She tells him that they barely have a relationship and it will be easy enough to just call things off. Jack is adamantly against this. But Mel claims she can't do this.
While in Clear River, she runs into Charmaine. The two have a pleasant enough conversation, but Charmaine tells her that she loves Jack, but there is no way he's going to be with her if Mel is around. So, she's basically asking Mel to leave town she she can get her man back. (The one that she knows doesn't love her. She admits he's never looked at her the way he looks at Mel).
When Mel gets home, Jack is waiting for her. He begs Mel to reconsider. He's falling in love with her and cannot lose her. She tells him about her stillbirth and not being able to have kids. She doesn't think she'll be able to watch Charmaine have this kid while she's with him and know she can never have that (we also find out the Charmaine didn't think she could have kids either, so she feels like this might be her only shot). She tells Jack she needs some time to think about it and he agrees. However, as soon as he leaves, she starts packing and calls Joey, crying, to tell her she's coming home.
Meanwhile, Paige finally confides in Preacher what I assumed was the case. She 'stole' Christopher from her ex husband who abused them. She dealt when it was just her, but when he started in on Christopher, that was the last straw for her. Unfortunately, her ex is a cop, so she's SOL when it comes to he said, she said. She's petrified he's going to find them and kill them.
Later, a guy comes into the bar talking about the pie and he seemed really interested in the woman who made it. Ricky is chatting with him about her, when Preacher realizes something is off. He sends Ricky to do another job and starts talking to the guy, but he pays for his meal and splits. Preacher follows him out to take a picture of his truck.
He's suspicious when he can't get in touch with Paige, so he heads over to her house. The door is ajar (I think), so he lets himself in. He loudly shouts that's he's there a couple of times, but no answer. Paige's phone is ringing, which means she left it behind. And then he sees the drops of blood on the floor. Of course.
Hope and Doc finally get back together (I think) after 20 years. After being on the other end of trying to get someone to forgive her (Jack), Hope finally realizes how Doc must have felt all this time trying to her to forgive him. This is, like, the only happy thing to occur in this episode.
Oh, and in a flashback, we see that the accident with Mark happened right after she told him it might be a good idea if they took a break as a couple. Come on.
