I am so annoyed that I watched this so many days ago. This episode was incredible, and I'm afraid I will not do it justice in this description as it's been so many days and my brain is useless. Sigh.
Okay, so, we get the guy who was working with Emmett to go into the factory (pretending to audit the books or something) wearing special shoes that will pick up the paint on the floor. He's a little wary, but ultimately agrees. They have a plan for him to ditch the shoes in a dumpster and then call Elizabeth and Philip from a pay phone. However, it does not go according to plan. Elizabeth and Philip are listening to police chatter in the car and hear that he's been caught.
As they go to take off, the phone rings and the guy tells them he was spotted. He did manage to get the shoes into the dumpster, but he's been shot. He does not last long before he dies in the phone booth. We do get the shoes, though.
Elizabeth finds out that Larrick is missing. So she and Philip wake the kids up in the middle of the night and bring them to some cabin that is nearby where Jared is staying. Elizabeth makes contact and he keeps asking about Kate.
Philip is talking to some KGB agents about how to get Jared out of here (I think), but is kidnapped by Larrick. Larrick then shows up at the cabin and holds Elizabeth and Jared at gun point. He's decided that he's not taking orders from the KGB any more. He takes Elizabeth's gun and handcuffs her. He then opens the trunk where Philip is handcuffed as well. Jared, apparently with his own gun, shoots Larrick, who shoots him back. Larrick dies pretty much immediately. But Jared is bleeding out. Elizabeth uncuffs herself and Philip and then tries to save Jared.
It turns out, the KGB has recruited him as well. He knows exactly what has been going on. He begs Elizabeth to tell the center that he saved their lives. We also find out that he and Kate were in love (or at least, he thought they were). AND he was the one who killed his parents and his sister, as they objected to him getting recruited. (He's sister was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and he feels bad about that). The KGB used Kate to lure him in. What the actual fuck.
Afterwards, they meet with Claudia who tells them the Center is trying to get second generation kids to join up. Since they are Americans, they can get access to the CIA an FBI and the like. She informs them that they are planning to recruit Paige next. Elizabeth and Philip refuse, but Claudia tells them they don't get to decide. Elizabeth is much less concerned about this than Philip is (but no surprise there), she thinks it might be a good idea. Philip, though, goes to Arkady and tells him his daughter is off limits. I'm not sure it works like that.
Elsewhere, Stan has gotten access to Echo and secretly recorded whatever he could so he could exchange it for Nina's freedom. However, when it comes time to make the exchange, all he leaves is a note telling her he's sorry. And so she's off the Russia to stand trial for treason (and most likely will end up dead). Stan does hang around in his car to watch her leave though.
Oh, and Martha has purchased herself a gun. I'm sure that will come into play next season.
