Ugh. I hate Justina. Why is she like this? Does she not understand that Callie is a child and she is the grown ass adult? Stop playing with her like this.
We start with Callie at some sort of arbitration to help Daphne get custody of Tasha back. However, the lawyer for the foster parents keeps bringing up all the shitty things that Daphne has done in the past. Callie keeps trying to explain that Daphne has changed, but it doesn't seem to matter. The judge rules that Tasha can stay with the foster family for another 30 days. If, in that time, Daphne can get a job that supports the two of them without government assistance, they can revisit. Daphne knows that that's basically impossible and is devastated that she lost her kid.
Later, Callie is interviewing Justina for her senior thesis (I guess Rita is too busy with her daughter to help now) and tells her about Daphne. She asks if there was any chance she had a job for Daphne. Justina is sympathetic, but tells Callie there is nothing available. Then, she tells Callie this story about her neighbor Lizzie, who was a foster child. When her parents lost custody, she came to live with the people next door and they were BFF. She even gave her her Mrs. Beasley doll. But, one day, her birth parents got custody again and she was taken out of the house and Justina never saw her again. Her birth parents lost custody again and she fell victim to the system.
However, later on, Callie asks Mariana to help her find Lizzie as a surprise for Justina. But, what they find is a video of Justina herself telling this story. Callie confronts her about it and she claims that if she tells Lizzie's story as her own, people donate more money. Callie is upset about this (who could blame her?) and asks Justina if she's just using her for money as well. Justina doesn't really deny it. She says it's the same as Callie using her to expand Fost and Found. And then she says that she found a job for Daphne. Ugh. If Callie accepts, she's now indebted to her. But if she says no, Daphne won't get her kid. This sucks. Ultimately, she does offer the job to Daphne, so I guess we're stuck with Justina for a while more. Grrrr.
Meanwhile, we're busy trying to set up the warehouse for the play. Jesus is in charge of building sets, but he's terrible at it. Mariana and Mat (upset that the other is dating) are not selling their relationship as star crossed lovers. Mat yells at Mariana about something, she counters with him being the one who broke up with her. Nick gets involved. Then, Zoe tells Nick that the reason Mat broke up with her is because she cheated on him.
Mariana is upset about all this, and later that night, Brandon comes to talk to her and she confesses that she lost her virginity to someone she barely knew and it killed. Brandon tells her they all make mistakes. He also slept with someone that he regrets and wishes he could take it back. Both Callie (who is listening in the bathroom) and I thought he meant her. But, when she confronts him about it later, he claims he was talking about Dani (who I forgot existed).
Gabe has started coming to help build sets. (As long as Stef is there it's all legal, apparently). And thank goodness because we're super behind and Jesus is not that good at this. But, he and Jesus have a chance to spend some time together. Unfortunately, Gabe says some stuff that upsets Jesus. He doesn't mean to, but he's not used to dealing with his son. But, they make up pretty soon.
He's been working into the night when everyone else has left. So, it's not a surprise when Mariana pops up to get her script which she left behind (even though she's off book) and finds him there. They chat a little bit and things seem to be going well, but then the cops show up. When Mariana opened the door, she triggered a silent alarm. They explain the situation, but they still need to show ID. Mariana, understanding the situation immediately, tries to talk their way out of it, but to no avail. As soon as they see Gabe's ID, they arrest him for being near a minor. Mariana tries to explain, but they just drag Gabe away.
Back at the house, Stef has arrived home with a new short haircut. Lena seems to find this incredibly sexy and the two head upstairs (so I'm sure they are going to miss this call from Mariana about getting Gabe out of jail).
Oh, and speaking of Stef, she's decided to get implants. (It was a thing this episode). They had two women come over, one who had implants and who decided against it, for Stef to talk to about her options. It got a little weird, as everyone was feeling everyone else up, but I understand it in principle.
