Okay, so it turns out this guy who held up Mel and Jack is from a pot camp. Last time I didn't get the impression that they were violent, but this whole camp is walking around holding guns threatening to kill us if we don't do what they want. I was sorely mistaken, I guess.
The boss of this operation, Calvin (?) has been shot (is anyone surprised by the amount of guns that are here?) and they need a doctor to fix him. He's not thrilled that it's Mel who showed up and not the Doc, but at this point, it seems like they will take what they can get. Mel tries to convince them to go to the hospital, but since all gunshot get reported to police, they can't.
Mel does the best with what she has, but the guy has lost a lot of blood and she doesn't have the supplies she needs. Eventually, she cauterizes the wound with a searing hot knife, and he passes out from blood loss and pain. They try to leave, but they won't let them until they know that Calvin is okay, so they are staying the night. Mel and Jack trade war stories while they try to stay safe during the night.
In the morning, Calvin in deemed good enough for them to leave. They tell him they'll send Doc over as soon as they can and are walking out when they hear screaming. Rushing toward the sound, they find a young woman in labor (this was the one Doc was looking for last time he was here). Mel starts to help, when Jimmy tells them they both have to go. Mel refuses and says she's delivering this baby. Unfortunately, the baby is breech, so it's a bit of a more difficult delivery, but they get it done.
Having been missing for two days, the people back in Virgin River (and Mel's sister, Joey) are kind of freaking out about where they are. Eventually, Doc decides to just trace their steps. He finds a beer can next to their broken down car and seems to know what that's about.
He gets to the camp just as Mel is arguing that the mother and baby need to go to the hospital. Calvin refuses to let them go. And everyone starts pointing their guns at them. Doc steps in to interfere and tells Calvin that they have a deal; he doesn't tell the cops about him, and he lets Doc treat his people. It's a little touch and go, but eventually, he allows them to leave.
Back in Virgin River, we find out that the reason Hope dislikes Charmaine so much is because it was her mother who had the affair with Doc all those years ago. And her mother was one of Hope's closest friends. Come on, Hope. Charmaine had nothing to do with that. Be as pissed at her mom as you want, but don't take it out of her.
After their ordeal, Mel and Jack spend the night in her room, neither wanting to be alone. She's in the bed, he's on the chair. During the night, Jack ends up having night terrors due to some military flashbacks in his sleep. We've seen some of this before from him. I assume all the drinking is to try to stave them off during the day. Maybe Mel can prescribe some meds for him.
