Okay, so I see why you guys thought I would like this. It's very Hart of Dixie-esque in it's premise. But that said, I think it's different tonally.
We've got a nurse who's moved from LA to northern California to take a job. However, on the way there, she gets into an accident and is bailed out by an older gentleman. When she tells him she's in town for a job with an old doctor who can no longer handle his practice, she finds out he's the doctor. And he is immediately unhappy with her. She tries to apologize but keeps putting her foot in her mouth.
Eventually, he drops her off at the cabin she's staying at (she's got free accommodations for a year). But it so does not match the picture she was given. Once she gets inside, she realizes it's an even bigger mess. But, Hope, the woman who hired her (the doctor's wife? sister? daughter?) assures her she'll have clean towels and blankets for her after she gets dinner.
So, Mel heads down to the only place in town that is open after 5pm and she hits it off with the bartender, Jack, well enough. He pours her a few shots (after he reluctantly informs her they don't do mixed drinks) and tells her a bit about the town. Then she has a lovely dinner. He ends up walking her home as she's had several shots. When she wakes up in the morning, he's left her a care package with coffee, bread (?) and a little note telling her things will get better.
She heads over to the doctor's office and he's still pissed that she's there. Again, she tries to apologize, but he's having none of it. He does not want her there. At all. He refuses to let her see patients.
Hope ends up talking to the doctor and he agrees to give her a 30 day trial period, but still won't let her do anything. However, a pregnant lady comes into the office when the doctor is out, so Mel treats her. When the doctor shows up during the exam, he is pissed. He and Mel have it out when the patient leaves. And, get this, he tells Mel that her role around the office is to make him coffee and keep things neat. Asshole.
This is the final straw for Mel. She goes to Hope and tells her she cannot work for the man (plus, he doesn't want to work with her either) and she's giving her notice. Then she heads out for a run and run into Jack at the doctor's office who found a baby in a basket on the porch.
While this is going on, we get little tiny flashbacks to Mel's life in LA. I have to guess that she was happily married (or engaged- I saw a ring on her, but not him) and her husband died. And she feels guilty about it (maybe she blames herself). So, she sold her house, quit her job, and ran. I already feel bad for this poor woman.
We also find out that Jack used to be in the marine's, along with Preacher (his chef), and Brady (the guy who drops by to steal from him). He's definitely into Mel, but notices the ring on her finger and while they have chemistry, he doesn't push anything because of it.
