What We Have in Store for Patrons NEW(!!) & Old

Greetings Deathlings Returning and New,

Well here I am beginning another post with, IT'S BEEN A WEEK.

But unlike last week when a nap and a puppy seemed like the only things that could soothe my weary soul, this week's "IT'S BEEN A WEEK" comes from a place of gratitude. We continue to wrestle with YouTube nonsense, but you, gentle Patron, have made my week so much brighter.

After we filled everyone in on what was going on with the Eastland video (demonetized, age-restricted, buried by YouTube), you all rose up to support me and my team in a massive way. We knew our Patrons and viewers would be kind and understanding, but we were unprepared for the outpouring of solidarity and good will.

Immediately messages and emails came in – Lauren is still sorting through and answering them right now! – expressing sympathy, sharing frustration, and generously offering insight and expertise. You are legitimately helping us move the needle forward as we try to get answers from YouTube. Behold the might of our Patrons!

Even more exciting is that so many NEW people have recently joined this community. Hello, hi there! Yes, I'm talking to you. Welcome!

We've all been floored that so many of you have chosen to support the creation of death videos with your hard earned dollars. Thank you, it's very humbling. We will continue to create the best videos we can.

You might be wondering what those videos might look like in the coming months. We're still figuring that out – we aren't totally sure yet. But we are sure that the death videos shall not be stopped! You can take our videos, but you can never take our freedom...to make more videos!

Team Death Video already has several videos simmering away in various stages. A few are main channel videos, but many are Patron-Only videos. With all that has happened recently, we've gotten really excited about the freedom that Patreon can offer us – the freedom to create videos we really care about away from the critical gaze of the 'Tube. So we're exploring that with more, fully produced Patron-Only videos.

Don't worry, we're not leaving YouTube, we're just looking into other ways to share content.

For those of you who are new, here are a couple examples of the kind of Patron-Only videos we're working on now:

[Caitlin in the foreground, a bemused expression on her face. In the background, an artist's painting of an early days autopsy and a modern photo of a doctor in scrubs standing over an autopsy, gazing down.]

"Is it Legal (or Ethical) to Host Live Autopsies? (PATRON-ONLY VIDEO)"

The Portland Marriott! Continental breakfast, heated pool, live autopsy for a paying audience!

[Caitlin in the foreground with a colorful shirt and bright red lipstick. She mugs for the camera with eyes wide, her expression conveying, "Yikes!" In the background, as if in a newspaper, are the photos of Michael Hutchence, Cass Elliot, and Bob Marley. In newspaper font are the words, "Ask a Mortician, Celebrity Deaths, Myth? Reality?"]

"PATRONS ONLY: From Mama Cass to Bob Marley, our Worst Celebrity Death Myths"

There's usually a big gap between how we think celebrities die and how they actually die. Sometimes a sandwich is just a sandwich.

It's been really gratifying to make videos just for our Patrons – the wind beneath our winged death's heads. Thank you for keeping us on the air!

So that's more or less where we are right now, deathlings. Still not totally sure what the future will look like, but feeling pretty lucky that we have the option to keep telling stories on our terms. And that's because of you.

Thank you deathlings new and old. You keep me excited about the future.

Onward!

I happened to discover Ask A Mortician right at the start of the pandemic. Because I was spending so much more time at home, I binge-watched it greedily. It has helped me hugely to cope with the death of my father earlier this month. Thank you, I'll be here as long as you have the desire to keep going!
