Okay, so the brothers are busy trying to torture humanity out of Elena. I don't know if this is the way to go, but it doesn't matter since it didn't work. Eventually, Elena catches on to the fact that they won't actually hurt her. And she sets out to prove it but lighting herself on fire. Damon and Stefan immediately rush over to put her out and rush her to safety. And now she knows she doesn't have to worry about them pushing too far.
Damon and Stefan head outside and have a very frustrating conversation about what to do, since Elena figured out the truth. Damon suggests they invite Katherine over to torture Elena. They make her promise not to kill her, but pretty much everything else is fair game. But, Elena immediately gets under her skin and she quits, purposefully leaving the cell door unlocked, allowing her to escape.
Elena heads for the woods, where she's stumbling around weak from hunger. I truck shows up and she flags it down. Turns out, it's Matt. He tries to talk some sense into her, but she really hungry so she feeds on him. A little while later, she's trying to feed on him some more, but Damon and Stefan show up and pull her off. Damon claims he's done playing nice. She either turns her emotions back on or he kills Matt. Elena tells him he's bluffing and Damon snaps his neck.
This seems to draw some actual feelings out of Elena and she begins to tear up. Then Damon starts naming her emotions to her and she gets a little worse. Finally, he tells Elena that Matt is wearing Jeremy's ring, so he'll be fine. And relief floods through her. But then all those emotions slam into her at once and she freaks out. She calms herself down enough to decide that she's not okay, but she will be. By killing Katherine. Elena has decided that everything bad that's ever happened is Katherine's fault.
However, while all this is going on, Bonnie is busy trying to convince Katherine to get her Silas's headstone. Apparently if she has it, she doesn't need to wait for the full moon to do the ritual (although why she's still planning to do it, I have no idea). And when Katherine asks what's in it for her, Bonnie claims she can do a spell to make her immortal. Which is what Katherine wants most of all. And she's gonna need it since Elena has decided she's public enemy number one. (But would Elena actually kill her? Elena with her humanity turned on? I'm not sure).
Meanwhile, poor Caroline is just getting tormented by Silas at every turn. He's desperate to find Bonnie who's avoiding him and has decided that Caroline is the best way to get her. Knowing that Silas is going to go after people she loves, she calls her mom and begs her to go home and not let anyone in, even her. However, when she gets home and finds her mom there, she doesn't know how to tell if it's her or Silas. And she decides that the way to do that is by calling her phone. This makes zero sense. But, Caroline has decided it's her mom.
Then, Bonnie shows up at the door, demanding to be let in. Caroline is suspicious that she's Silas and isn't letting her in. Especially since she's so adamant about getting through the door. Finally, Bonnie yells to Caroline that her mom is Silas and when Caroline turns out it's this Skeletor guy, not her mom. Bonnie magics herself into the house, while Caroline runs to look for her mom. She finds her dead (?) on the floor. Caroline tries to feed her some of her blood, but she won't drink. So she syphons some blood out of her neck and injects it into her mom's heart. That seems to do the trick. But I'm a little skeptical that her mom is fine. I feel like we might get some repercussions from this. Her mom seemed pretty dead (too dead to drink from Caroline) and this seems like an untested way to heal someone with vampire blood. We'll see, I guess.
