Okay, so this is the first episode that doesn't actual have a shade of red in the title. Although I suppose blood red could be considered a shade. But, I still jumped to thinking 'red' when I read the title, so I think it works. However, I also wonder if this means anything. I feel like I read into everything with this show!
So, as soon as Patrick gets to work, he gets a text from someone telling him that there is a large bomb nearby, and asking if he is smart enough to find out. He runs to tell Lisbon and they treat the building like it's a bomb threat. However, Jane is busy running around looking for the bomb. And he finds it. In a van, he sees a guy handcuffed to the ceiling unable to get out and a bomb counting down next to him. Oh, and he's got the words UR NEXT written on his forehead. Try as they might, he and Lisbon just don't have a enough time to free him before the van explodes. She yanks him away with just enough time to duck behind a car, but the blast gives him temporary vision loss.
He drives the doctors and nurses at the hospital crazy and ends up coming back to the office sooner than he should. He's convinced that he and the guy who blew up in the van are connected somehow and that the bomber is coming after him next. He gets Lisbon to bring him to meet the widow, and he discovers she has a similar watch to one he's seen (or felt) before; back in his fake psychic days.
Grace is kind enough to go through his old files looking for his client list. And while she's doing this, Jane is trying to get info out of her new boyfriend from her. He gets a little, then she finds the list. Turns out, there is a match, but it's a bust. However, after a little more digging, they find a woman who Jane convinced to leave her husband after he had an affair. The divorce was awful. The wife ended up happy, but the guy she divorced never recovered. He lost his job, his family, his money, his home. This is pretty good motive for him to go after Jane.
But before that happens, Grace's new boyfriend comes in to say hello. She introduces him to Rigsby and he's pretty standoffish. But then, he asks if he can talk to him in the bathroom. He tells new guy that he'd better be good to Grace, they love her etc. And he responds by kicking him in the back, pistol whipping him, and handcuffing him to the stall unconscious. Nice guy.
He then comes out to meet Patrick. Patrick does some psychic-like things to read him and new guy laughs it off. But, once Grace is out of ear shot, he tells Jane he's not stupid and if he does anything, he'll shoot Grace in the head. Just outside the room, Grace gets a call from Lisbon telling her the name of the killer, and it's her new boyfriend. She comes back in and tries to go for her gun, but he stops her. He makes her handcuff herself and marches her and Patrick outside to her car.
Once outside, the gate guy calls hello, and during the distraction, Patrick elbows new guy and he and Grace run while gate guard and boyfriend exchange shots at each other. They make their way to Grace's car, but Grace is handcuffed and Patrick is blind. They try to make it work anyway, but it's a disaster and the soon crash the car to the point where it won't turn on any more. Thankfully, right as boyfriend is about to shoot us in the head, Lisbon shoots him from behind.
Grace runs into the bathroom to check on Rigsby. She apologizes and tries to comfort him. The are this close to sharing a kiss, but are interrupted by the janitor. The moment passes and things are back to the status quo. Sigh.
And the next day Patrick gets his sight back and all is right with the world. I have to tell you, I was 100% sure that Patrick was faking being blind. Not in the beginning, but I thought he might have gotten it back and not telling anyone, so he could use it to his advantage later on. This was not the case. Still fun, though.
