Wouldn't it be nice to use everything all the time? Maybe it's just me, but I see other people trying out neat new things, and I have a bit of envy for their experiences. It's one of the reasons, at least initially, I was excited to try NixOS. I hear so many people say awesome things about what they've done on Nix, it had to be good, right?
Well I did try it for 9 months, and it was okay, but not as good as people told me. I suppose the lesson there is that we're not all the same, and t...

I know I make a lot of pods about where I'm moving next in terms of DE/WM, but here's another. Thanks as always for your support.

Another pod for you guys. A ramble about an addiction no one should have. How many keyboards does one need? A lot. A lot is the answer.
Thanks for your support as always.

2024-07-10 01:43:04 +0000 UTC View PostAbout six months ago, I left Vim behind. My goal then was to have an easier IDE type experience while I learned Python without having to bury myself in a ton of plugins. I also found myself having a hard time transitioning my Neovim into Lua. I was, also at the time, using a DE and a GUI made more sense for me.
My experiences with GUI text editors since then are far and wide. I used Kate first (and for the longest), but in traditional Matt fashion, I also tried out VS Code, Geany, gedit...

Another pod for you guys, this time I ramble about my final notes solution. I'm sure it's the one I'll stick on. I'm sure.
Thanks as always for your support!
2024-07-08 01:50:44 +0000 UTC View PostFor the last three years I have promoted the use of the Elecom Huge, a trackball mouse that I have adored from almost the moment I first bought one. I loved it so much, I bought another for my standing desk, and then bought a pack of four different size Elecom trackers from Amazon.
It is an excellent trackball, with a design unlike any other and great customizability. It just has one problem: it breaks.
If you held one of these things, it wouldn't seem like it'd be fragile, and it...
2024-07-02 06:09:58 +0000 UTC View PostSo, yeah, I've been a bit absent the month of June. I took a week and a half off completely as a bit of a vacation, and then it took ages to get back into my RL job (turns out that the place falls apart without me there).
Add onto some family drama, and it's been a rough month for making videos. I had plans to get back on track this last week (as I mentioned in the Patron Pod), but that hasn't happened.
But fear not. Matt isn't gone forever. I have some videos on queue to make, an...
2024-07-01 19:57:00 +0000 UTC View PostI have been a strong proponent of btrfs for years. I will argue until I'm blue in the face that it is the absolute best file system on Linux for most regular situations (RAID is obviously the biggest exception). The history of btrfs instability is overblown in my experience. Oh, it happened, but from my usage of it and those of my friends who have used it, it is just as stable as ext4 these days. Note that I'm fully aware that this previous statement is the height of “well, it works for meâ...

Fretting about my backup strategy or lack thereof. Also, a word about my sound issues. Apologies for the background noise, I'm working on it. Thanks for your support, as always.

2024-06-19 04:44:38 +0000 UTC View PostI'm a window manager guy. I cut my teeth on the likes of i3 and DWM, I even found myself liking Xmonad despite my dislike of Haskell. I adore almost everything about Window Managers. The workflow suits me, the customization and the thrill of building your own environment thrills me, and the community is highly enjoyable.
But for the last month and a half, I've eschewed my true home. I've spent most of my time in Gnome (shudder) with a bit of time spent in the perpetually buggy, yet feat...
2024-06-18 06:13:50 +0000 UTC View PostI like these types of lists, so I've done a couple of videos like this. But this one I thought would be more suitable for a blog post, simply because it has nothing, really, to do with Linux. It all boils down to this question: If I were starting my YouTube channel today, what would I do differently?
It's a hard question, to be honest. Unlike all the other times I've done something like this, going back in time to when I decided to start the YouTube channel would have real consequences....

A test balloon for a real video to see if I can actually say positive things about Gnome.
Thanks as always for your support.
2024-06-06 03:43:52 +0000 UTC View PostYes, this is a blog post.
I know. There hasn't been a blog post from me in literal ages. But, I'm back in the saddle again, and I want to see if I can get back into a habit of doing this before I have to make a New Year's resolution to do so in six months. Not that I ever keep those, LMAO.
Today I want to talk about saving money. Not really a topic that I'd normally talk about, but I think I can swing this into an actual Linux topic, let's see how I do.
I pay for a ton of su...

Sunday - Nothing. Spend the night recording
Monday - Edited version of the podcast
Wednesday - Gnome Commander (recorded)
Friday - Joplin Review (recorded)
Saturday - Podcast, Topic TBD
Yes, that's right. I have videos recorded ahead of time. Woot!
