Okay, so Damon has brought Elena to New York under the guise of showing her a good time. This is where he spent a lot of the 70s and had an amazing time, so he wants Elena to do the same. However, shortly after they get there, Rebekah shows up and bursts Elena's bubble claiming that Damon really took her there because he was searching for info about Katherine. He's still trying to get the cure for Elena.
Before that happens though, they actually do have a good time. They drink and dance and eat people. At one point, Damon leaves the two girls feeding and slips away to an office. Turns out, the vampire he killed last (or the one before) was actually someone he knew in NY in the 70s. He was someone who got IDs for vampire. And Damon knew he'd gotten several for Katherine. So, he breaks into his office looking for info about it. He manages to find a paper with several of her recent addresses on it.
While this is happening, Rebekah suggests that she and Elena hunt for the cure together. She claims if Damon finds it, he'll try to force Elena to take it (which she currently does not want), but if they find it, Rebekah will take it, and then Elena won't have to worry about Damon shoving it down her throat. At first Elena does not agree, but later, while she and Damon are kissing on the roof, she gropes into his back pocket for the info on Katherine, but he's too quick for her. But not for Rebekah who shows up and snaps his neck. The two of them steal his car and head out to look for Katherine.
This is all interspersed with flashbacks of Damon in NY in the 70s. Turns out, Stefan had sent Lexi to try to get him to turn his humanity back on. And Lexi has decided to that by indulging in Damon's lifestyle during the night and pestering him about Katherine (and his love for her) during the day. Eventually, Damon claims it's not going to work because Katherine isn't the one he cares about, insinuating that he cares for Lexi. She asks when he turned his humanity back in, and he says something like he wasn't aware. They end up having sex on the roof. In the morning when the sun comes out, it burns her and she zooms away to get inside, but Damon has blocked the door. She realizes he never turned the switch back on and played her.
Back in Mystic Falls, Bonnie is convinced by Silas to trick 12 witches into trying to help her get rid of her expression magic. And once they are all linked up, Bonnie only needs to kill one and the rest die. Once that happens, the veil drops and the dead supernatural creatures come back.
Stefan, Klaus, and Caroline are trying to stop this. There are two places where Bonnie could do the ritual, so Stefan heads to one, and Klaus and Caroline head to the other. The two of them sort of argue a bit with her telling him ' people who do terrible things, are terrible people.' Which I called BS on right away. Caroline, that means you have to ditch all your friends, sweetheart.
Anyway, Stefan ends up at the correct place, and pleads with the witch who is working to expel the Expression Magic from Bonnie to stop. He explains she's being brainwashed by Silas to kill them all. Once she hears Silas is involved, she sets out to kill Bonnie figuring she's a lost cause. At this point, Klaus and Caroline show up. Caroline rushes over on instinct to save her friend, and kills the witch who is about to kill her. This kills all 12 witches, making Silas' ritual complete.
Later, when Bonnie finally wakes up, she has no memory of anything that's happened since Silas was woken. Which means poor Stefan has to break the news to her that Jeremy is dead. But, now the the ritual is complete, who knows what that means for him. Also, I'm looking forward to how Caroline deals with her guilt over this.
