The Mentalist 1X11: Red John's Friend

Ooh, this episode was so much fun! I really didn't think we were gonna get more Red John stuff until the end of this season.

So, we've got a guy who is in jail for life (or close to it, I think) for rape and murder, but he swears he's innocent. He get Jane to come visit him because word got around that he can tell when people are lying. This guy tells Patrick that if he can get him off, he'll give him information about Red John, as he's apparently a friend of a friend. Initially, Patrick walks away, but then this guy tells him something that only the killer would know, so Patrick agrees to help him.

However, the CBI boss guy, refuses to allow him to reopen the case. So, Patrick quits. He's going to find out all the info on Red John he can at or removed from, CBI. As soon as the team finds out, they immediately all start looking into the case as they all want to help him. But, the boss shows up tells them if they do any work on this case with or for Patrick, he's going to suspend them all. So they all volunteer to be suspended because they are not planning to stop. So he suspends them, which Lisbon wasn't actually expecting. He ends up telling her he's going out of town for a week and will pretend he doesn't know anything until then, but they've only got a week.

The biggest issue is that the girl was killed from inside a locked room, that no one can get into or out of. And when they were found, it was only the two of them in there. However, Jane does some Sherlock Holmes demonstration to prove that you actually could unlock the door from the outside after he observed some wire in a closet.

And from this, he figures out that the mother actually killed her. Apparently, the girl he supposedly raped and murdered was actually his girlfriend. But, what he didn't know (but the mom did) was that he was her step sister. And the family has had a bunch of getting their names dragged through the mud and she didn't want this to come out. So she killed her. But she also saved the blood from the murder so she could do down for it at a time of her choosing. Fun.

After solving the case, the guy who originally called Patrick is let out of jail. But, on the way back in the car, he slips out and takes off when the car gets stuck in a protest. Shortly after, he calls Jane and tells him he's sorry, but he can't tell him anything about Red John as it's just not in his best interest. They trace the call and head down to Tijuana (I think), but by the time they get there, he's already been murdered by Red John. Before he died it looks like he tried to write something in blood on the wall. But he died before completion.

And then, Red John calls Jane and literally just laughs at him. How sadistic is this fucker?
