Greetings Deathlings!
Let me tell you about the genesis of this video.

(This is not a Genesis vinyl clock that I thanked and let go of, but I couldn't help but clutter this post with it. At least one of you is now scouring eBay for this gem.)
As I mention in the video, I've done a few Great Purges of stuff in my life. It's fun for all! (Says me...my closest companions decline to comment.)
Decluttering has become something near and dear to me. Not only is it therapeutic – there is nothing so affirming as an empty cabinet – but I am practicing death acceptance in a way that considers my loved ones. If I were to die tomorrow, they wouldn't have to wade through my STUFF wondering, "Was this rental car receipt from 2017 a treasured puzzle piece of the woman we loved?" Instead, they'd have a clearer picture of what was precious to me, with items hopefully sparking Caitlin-tinged joy.
And they'd have SO MUCH LESS to dig through! More time for funeral potatoes!
So feeling inspired while in a fort built of my own castoffs, I wrote up some thoughts that became the script for this video.
I feel like Landis and Louise knew it was only a matter of time before I came to them with "Caitlin's Decluttering Manifesto".
So I hope this video sparks some joy in you and you are inspired to do some death positive cleaning of your own.
We have another video coming up for you next week! Not only does this video feature more of "Caitlin & friends" but they put me in a kayak. So you have that to look forward to.
Thank you for your attention deathlings, now I release you! Go out into the world and declutter! (Or get a smoothie or pet a puppy or something. You do you.)
Caitlin
*A quick, but important clarification: If you clicked on this post from your email, the subject probably read, "Caitlin Doughty's new patron-only video". This is not a patron-only video; this is a video that was released to the public. When we release patron-only videos we will explicitly state in the video info and in the video post that it is a "Patron Exclusive" video. Patreon recently changed the way Patrons-only video posts (i.e. these nifty messages that are delivered to your inbox) are released via email – automatically adding that "patron-only video" line to the subject, even if that's not the case. But that's not how we (and a lot of other creators) do things. So, sorry for the confusion! I hope this cleared things up! We're working on fixing this with Patreon.
