I want to say there was nothing wrong with this episode. But I was very disappointed. I was so upset with how the last episode ended that that's what I wanted to follow up on. And initially they gave it to me, but then they yanked it out from under me and gave me a flashback episode. And it was a good episode. Or, it would have been if they'd just stuck it during Christmas where it belonged.
So we start with Callie and Brandon kissing. He tells her they can't do this, and she tells him she loves him. He gets up and says he has to think and takes off. He sits on the curb and remembers the previous Christmas, which is the story we get.
Back at Christmas time, Stef finds out that her dad left $150k to her mom, and she's not happy about. She feels like the money should have gone to her since she's got 5 kids to put through college. And it doesn't help when her mom puts, quite literally, a truckload full of gifts under the tree.
The two of them get into an argument about he mom spending too much money. And the fact that she buys them extravagant, intimate gifts (she claims the bed she bought them ruined their sex life- I mean, I thought about that too, but not in front of the kids). Plus, Stef is worried about how they are going to take care of her mom when she gets older since she's spending all her money.
Livid, her mom gets up and thrusts a gift into Stef's hands. Stef doesn't want it, but her mom insists. Turns out it's $30,000 for college of each of the kids. And after that, all is sort of forgiven.
Jude first steals, then returns and buys (at a steep discount) a bracelet for Callie. He wants to get her something special since she didn't get adopted, but he did. But, the two of them seem equally loved on Christmas, so like I always say, Stef and Lena aren't great at communicating with each other, but they are with the kids. They really are good parents.
Meanwhile, Daphne ends up kidnapping her kid out of the park. She knows she isn't supposed to see her, but found out that her foster family wants to adopt her and kind of lost her mind for a minute. Callie and Brandon show up and talk her into returning her. It seems a little out of left field, but maybe it will make sense in a future episode.
Eventually, Brandon comes back to himself as Callie shows up and sits beside him. Then they watch an ambulance racing towards the house and they both rush back there. I can only assume it's for whatever Sophia did in the bathroom. I was worried she was going to self harm in there. I certainly could be something else, but they really set us up for this.
