Talking with The Collective For Radical Death Studies

Hello Deathlings!

This week we have a new article that I am SO excited for you to read.

We spoke with The Collective For Radical Death Studies, a new organization founded by death scholars and students, death professionals, and activists who view their work as anti-racism work, and aim to decolonize their fields.

In this interview with two of the Collective's founding members, Dr. Kami Fletcher, and Dr. Tamara Waraschinski, they explain what it means to decolonize death, why their work is so necessary, and some of the ways CRDS plans on implementing their mission, including a book club, field trips, and offering virtual education and training.

One of my favorite features of the new CRDS website is their Rad Death Studies Canon which features books, articles, films, videos, and websites that center how people of various cultures and backgrounds acknowledge death from their own cultural understanding and experience.

I really hope you will take the Collective's mission to heart. Here's a quote from the interview that I especially love:

The work will be messy, at times, because it is the work of the bones, of truth, healing, and justice. But you cannot develop nuance without wading through the mess. We have come to a point in our culture in which we would greatly benefit from developing greater discernment and nuanced perceptions of the world around us. Decolonizing death can be just the vehicle.

Oh, and there's more to come this week! This Saturday the 24th we have a NEW video premiering. This is the first of many longer videos we are creating. Landis, Louise, and I are really excited to show you what we've been working on for the past few weeks (Months? It's kind of a blur...a good blur. A BLUR OF LOVE. Is that gross?)

Plus, just for you dear Patrons, we're releasing a BONUS video at the end of the month. Who loves you? HMMM?

Thank you for being good and decent deathlings. Onward!
