The Fosters 2X8: Girls Reunited

I really enjoyed this episode. I didn't realize how much I missed the group home and the girls (and Cole) until we got to see it again. Fingers crossed we don't wait as long to see them next time.

So, it's Open House at Girls United and Callie decides to come stay for the weekend to help out (and also, apparently, to be an example of what the group home can do). We find out that poor Kiara's foster family fell through. Ugh. I hate that for her. Cole is back on the black market hormones. Ugh. I hate that for him. Becka is getting ready to go home, but her mom is still fucking shit up. Ugh. I hate that for her. And there is this awful, bitchy new girl. Ugh. I hate that for everyone.

It turns out that Cole and bitchy bitch are hooking up. So, even though he FINALLY got approved to get into group home that is LBGTQIA+ (I think that's right, correct me if I'm wrong), he wants to stay because of her. Callie tries to plead with him explaining that she's only with him for the drugs (I assume that in addition to the hormones, the drug guy can get other stuff), but Cole is convinced they are gonna run away together. Callie convinces him that if she really loved him, she want him to go. So, he (along with Callie and Kiara) confronts her about it, and she calls him a freak and that she was only using him to get to her real boyfriend. It's kind of heartbreaking, but then she runs away and we're all happy.

Becka, is excited to be leaving group and going home. She's worked through her mom passing her around to all her boyfriends, as her mom has taken full responsibility and apologized. But, at the Open House, she tells Becka that she has a new boyfriend, but promises he's different. Becka doesn't believe it and neither do I.

I can only speculate here, but it seems like Becka took bitch's drugs (they were missing and she blamed Callie) and went down to the basement to smoke them (I think it was meth, but I'm a booze girl, lots of drugs are a mystery to me). That's not the speculation. The speculation is that she did this to get herself in trouble so she didn't have to go back and live with her mom (and her potentially fucked up boyfriend). I think she'd rather go back to juvie than that. Presumably, she got high and passed out, then, inadvertently, started a fire in the basement.

Once the smoke alarms start going off, Rita is like a bat out of hell, trying to get everyone out of the house. And I love that the girls understand what's happening and immediately give up all their secrets to make sure everyone's safe. While Rita is looking for bitch, Callie tells her she ran away; and later when she's looking for Becka one of the other girls tells her to check the basement because they go down there to smoke.

Turns out, Becka is passed out in the basement. And too heavy for Rita to move. But, Callie came back looking for them and the two of them manage to get her upstairs. Once they realize everyone is safe, Rita is not happy with Callie for trying to play the hero, but Callie puts it right back on her. I'd say it's a lucky situation (and it is), but we find out that all the girls are going to need to go back to juvie until we find a new place. (Did I mention the Open House was for the neighborhood to try to get comfortable with the girl, as they don't want them to renew their lease?) Ugh. I wish Stef and Lena would take them all. But that's highly unrealistic. At least Cole has somewhere to go in a few days.

Back at home, Mariana has created this awful dinner party for her, Jesus, Hayley, and her date (whose name I forgot). But, the whole thing just deteriorates when Hayley catches Mariana in a lie (a perfectly acceptable lie if you ask me- and her date agrees). Then Mariana throws her parents divorce back at her, and she gets up and leaves. Good riddance. But, as she's leaving, Hayley AGAIN manages to manipulate Jesus into spending time with her the next day, even though he's already busy. Bitch. Find another man. I hate this for poor Jesus. He's too young to know that he's being taken advantage of.

However, the opposite seems to happen for Mariana and her date. He understands why she lied and they bond over it. Fingers crossed, he's not a douche. Or maybe he is. Mariana could use some better storylines.

Oh, and Stef gets a letter from Ana wanted to see the twins. And she takes it upon herself to answer for both her and Lena (who's on a school camping trip with Jude). I mean, she made the right decision, but again, here she is, making decisions without consulting her wife. It's starting to drive me batty.

That out of the way, can we talk about the end of the episode, when she revisits the letter? I'm really not sure what her thought process is here. It seemed like the conversation she had with Jesus about not letting Hayley manipulate him was the catalyst for this but I'm not sure how. They talked about how he shouldn't give up things he wants to do to take care of her. Is that it? I really can't figure out what that is about. I'm hopeful they bring it back up again.
