"Going Dark" in January: the FAQs

For the entire month of January 2019, The Order of the Good Death and the Ask a Mortician channel will be “going dark.” What does “going dark” mean?

No new content in the month of January! No new videos, blogs, social media, or podcasts.

Will I still be able to watch my favorite Ask a Mortician videos on YouTube? Will the Order website still be live?

Yes and yes. The channel will still be there (binge away deathlings!) and the Order website won’t be going anywhere.

Will the Order of the Good Death’s social media be “dark” too?

The only two social media accounts you’ll find us on are @OrderGoodDeath on Twitter and The Deathling Den on Facebook (for Patreon supporters only.)

WHY are you going dark? 

To plot, plan, film, record through the month of January. Our whole team is pushing the boundaries of what we can accomplish. That includes longer, more in depth videos, new educations resources, new Death in the Afternoon podcasts, new blogs, and a new, revamped Patreon that people can support not just the creation of videos, but all the work the Order does.

Our goal is to come back BIG in February.

Will Patreon be affected by these changes? 

Yes. We will be going from a “per video” donation model to “per month” donation model. 

What does this mean?

It means that instead of pledging to donate a set dollar amount per video, you pledge to donate a flat dollar amount per month. 

Currently, if you pledge $2 per video and we make four videos that month, you’d get charged $8 total. 

After the switch to monthly, you will only be charged once a month. So once you choose your monthly pledge amount – $2 or $8 or any level you choose – that’s all you get charged for that month. 

When will the switch from per video donations to monthly donations happen in Caitlin’s Patreon?

The switch will happen in February. Patrons will not be charged at all until the end of February.

Since you’re not releasing any new content in January, will I still be charged?

No, you will not be charged at all for the month of January. $0.

NOTE: This means you will NOT be charged at the beginning of February, for the month of January. However you will be charged at the beginning of January for the month of December. 

Will Patreon go dark in January too?

No. Patreon will not go dark. It will stay running as a place people can go for information and to ask questions. 

I am a current patron, what does switching to a monthly model mean for me? What will happen to my account when the switch happens?

You will never be charged any amount that you have not consented to. If you don’t change anything, you’ll be paying less than usual. You won’t suddenly be charged $8 instead of $2. 

Come February, if you pay $5 per video, for example, your new pledge will be $5 per month. In the previously model, we typically posted four times a month, meaning that your pledge usually came out to $20. In a monthly model, you could either stick with $5 per month or you could edit your pledge to around $20 per month – in keeping with your previous pledge total. Either way, THANK YOU! 

If you do want to edit your pledge, here are instructions on how to do that within your Patreon account. 

When you change the reward levels in Patreon, and I can’t match the reward level I’m currently at, will I be kicked out of The Deathling Den on Facebook? @IconicCorpse on Instagram?

Absolutely not! You will be grandfathered into those accounts regardless of your pledge amount. To honor your pioneering spirit.
