Hart of Dixie 1X1: Pilot

Okay, you guys, I'm kind of in love with this. It's taking all of my effort not to binge through this. It was so much more sweet and wholesome and heartwarming than I expected.

So, we've got a doctor who was planning to be a surgeon, but it turns out, her bedside manner isn't very good. Her supervisor tells her he won't recommend her for an internship in her specialty until she does a year as a primary care physician. At her graduation, this old doctor guy turns up and offers her a job as a primary care physician at his practice. In Alabama. Not gonna happen for our city girl. Except it is.

Desperate with no where to go, she ends up accepting the old doctor's offer. But, by the time she manages to get to Alabama, she finds out he died four months ago. However, he left her half of his practice. Unfortunately, the other half is run by this guy who already hates her. And he hasn't even met her yet.

She tries to help out when she can, but no on seems to want her help. Plus she's already made a bunch of enemies (through no fault of her own if you ask me).

After the first day, she's exhausted and goes to the store to buy some wine where she runs into a woman who was in her office earlier. Zoe asks her if she knows she's pregnant. And the woman said she wasn't sure, she hasn't taken a test. So, Zoe gives her her number and tells her to let her know if she's need anything, she'll help her.

She then takes her box of wine, gets drunk on the side of the road and starts making out with this asshole who blew her fuse. Eventually, she comes to her senses and walks back to her place where she finds her mom who is desperate to take her home. Zoe agrees they'll leave the next day. But, while she packing, she gets a call from Mabel (the pregnant woman) begging her to come, as she's in a lot of pain.

Unfortunately, Mabel is working a party for one of the people that already hates her and she can't get in. Thankfully, the mayor shows up and tells her she can be his date. She finally finds Mabel and finds out she's in active labor and is going to have the baby now. Brick (the asshole doctor she works with) insists on delivering the baby, but Mabel refuses claiming Zoe is her doctor. It's a bit complicated, but with Brick's help, the two of them manage to deliver a healthy baby. Afterwards, Brick actually gives her a compliment.

However, Zoe is still planning on leaving. At least until the receptionist tells her that the old dead doctor is actually her dad. Zoe confronts her mom about it and her mom is very dismissive of the whole thing. So, Zoe decides to stay and build a life for herself without her mom's imput.

I know it's only the pilot and so much can change, but I LOVE Zoe's character. She's sweet and strong and willing to fight for people, but also has a bunch of not so great characteristics. She's egotistical and judgmental and a little brash. But complexity is what makes for good characters.
