The Vampire Diaries 4X5: The Killer

I was so sure that we were going to have Connor all season. (Although, since I learned his name, I guess I should have known better). But that also answers my question of what happens when a hunter dies. Oh, and we're also journaling again? Fun.

Okay, I know that he's just trying to protect Elena, but Stefan is actively making things worse by not telling her (or Damon) what the hell is going on with Klaus. It's like he hasn't been in this show. They never let things go. If you don't just tell them, things are gonna be so much worse.

Anyway, Stefan is busy running around trying not to let anyone kill Owen because he's the secret to Elena's cure. But, since he hasn't bothered to tell anyone that, Damon is hell bent on killing him (I mean he's here to kill all our friends and his hold half the people we know hostage right now). In order to kept Damon away, Stefan drugs him with vervain and leaves him to head over and try to diffuse the situation at the grill.

He's in pretty regular contact with Klaus though, who has informed him not to kill his hunter. And also that he's sending over a hybrid to help. But, the hybrid gets killed basically has soon as he gets in the door. Matt and April have been banished to the kitchen where Matt is trying to break through the floor. Stefan hears him and comes to help. He tells Matt to bring April to Caroline so she can compel her to forget.

Back in the Grill, Jermey is standing on a landmine of sorts so he can't really move. Somehow, Stefan manages to get him off and save them both. Both, Elena hears the explosion and calls over there to see what's going on. When Stefan doesn't answer, she decides to go herself, but this is when Damon wakes up. He tells her to be careful and kill Owen if she gets the chance.

Once she gets over there, she pleads with Owen to leave Jeremy alone, he's the only family she has. But he insists he's going to shoot him if Stefan doesn't give himself up. Finally, he does, and when that happens, Elena takes the distraction to rush at Owen getting Jeremy shot in the process. But, Elena and Owen go at. Unable to allow either one to die, Stefan grabs Owen and gets him out of there.

But, they run into Damon who is upset that Stefan either made a deal with Klaus or is being compelled by him. Stefan shoos Owen away, telling him to run, but he's still refusing to talk. At least until Damon shoves his hand inside his chest cavity and squeezes his heart. Finally, he tells him the truth of why he needs to keep Owen alive.

However, Owen runs directly into Elena who immediately takes a bit bite out of his neck. Then she lectures him about never going near Jeremy again. And when he tells Elena that she's the biggest threat to Jeremy, she loses her temper and snaps his neck. Owen gone. Cure gone. Klaus pissed.

Elena is devastated about what she did. She's an emotional wreck trying to dig his grave. She seems to blame both brothers, which is surprising to me. I would have thought she'd have taken all this blame herself, but she tells Stefan he was supposed to protect her from this; and Damon that he told her to kill him and she did. She has no idea about the fact that she lost out on the cure though.

Back at the boarding house, Damon asks Stefan what he plans to do now. And he claims, he'll just keep looking for another hunter and use him as a map to the cure. He doesn't know it yet, but after Owen died, we see that Jeremy has begun to sport the hunter's mark. I wonder if Stefan will encourage him to kill vampires so he can get enough of the tattoo to finish the map. And if Elena will like that. Or if they'll even tell her. Ugh. This is gonna get messy, isn't it?

While all this is happening, Bonnie is busy being hypnotized by the professor. I'm not sure to what end, but I'm afraid that at some point in the future she'll be needed, and he'll somehow hypnotize her into freezing and not helping or something. And speaking of helping, he does seem to be helping her with her magic, so that's something. But, it might also mean he can hypnotize her and then compel her to use it in ways she doesn't want.

Oh, also Tyler and accent girl are actually planning on freeing all the hybrid from the sire bond. Tyler is just letting Klaus think that the two of them got together so he wouldn't be suspicious of what else was going on.
