Ugh. She just got Ricky back and now she needs to decide between him and drama school? That's such a shitty thing for a teenager. As an adult, you know which is probably the right decision, but everything always feels like or death when you're an adolescent.
So, it turns out that Ricky asking E.J. to take his place wasn't because he was upset that this mom brought her boyfriend and he couldn't perform, but that he heard about the dean coming to observe Nini. And he wanted her to be showcased the best she could be and he thought E.J. would do a better job of that than he would. Come on. That's adorably sweet.
However, when E.J. shows up on stage as Troy, Nini is visibly shocked and confused. She stops the show several times to ask E.J. what he's doing there. This should totally not happen. I mean, isn't the point of live theatre that anything can happen and you just have to go with it? But she's totally not doing that. However, Ricky and Gina enter (very, very loudly) through the back to door to watch, and E.J. ends up bowing out and Nini and Ricky sing together. It's good and all, after Nini not being able to roll with what was going on, there is zero chance I'm offering her a place at this school.
After the show, Nini is upset because the dean left mid way through the performance (and I was thinking, can you blame her?), but Ricky confesses his love for her and it seems like maybe she got over it pretty quickly. They kiss and it seems like all is right in their world. However, when Ricky runs off somewhere, drama dean shows back up and offers Nini a place starting the following month. I refuse to believe this. But, either way, she leaves and now Nini has to decide, go to the school, or stay and be in love with Ricky.
Also, we find out that E.J. was the one who got the ticket for Gina to come. Which is delightful. AND, it looks like maybe she's gonna come back and stay with Ashlyn, which would be awesome. It seems like Ashlyn is always alone in the giant house. Fingers crossed.
In the post credits we see Red Head tap dancing with Ashlyn watching in the wings. She seems into it. And now that she knows the giant ass bouquet of flowers was from him, she just goes for it, and they kiss. I'm so not about this. But, hey, if she's happy.
I don't know what we'll be doing for S2. It seems like this should sort of the end. Are we going to put on HSM every season?
