Okay so the Scooby gang, minus Bonnie who no one has heard from, come up with a plan to kill an Original with the stakes. Any Original will do, but they go through some practice motions to make sure we're all on the same page. Finn is looking like the easy target since he was willing to sacrifice himself before, but now that Sage is back, it's looking like he might not be so willing to die after all.
While, we're working on a plan to kill him, Bonnie (who has been accosted by Klaus) is working with him to break the spell that links the Originals together. She's trying to stall, but after Klaus threatens Jeremy, she buckles down and gets to right. Right as Elena and Matt manage to stake Finn, Bonnie's spell works. So, Finn dies, but no one else (although, they don't know that yet.)
Rebekah, meanwhile, has been busy torturing and bleeding Damon of vervain. She's pissed that he went into her mind and took her information about the tree. Once Bonnie is done with the spell and released, she passed by Damon and looks a little horrified. But, Klaus makes and off-handed comment about how he turned her mom, so she leaves.
However, as soon as she gets outside, she calls Elena to tell her that Klaus has Damon. Elena is confused since he should be dead, as they killed Finn, and that's when Bonnie tells her he forced her to the the unbinding spell.
It sort of feels like the Originals not all dying is going to be our biggest problem. But then, Sage and her newly turned vampire show up at the boarding house pissed about Finn's death and they suddenly just start throwing up blood and die. Turns out, when an Original dies, everyone in their bloodline dies as well. Which makes everything a hot mess because we don't know which Originals started the bloodline for Stefan, Damon, or Caroline. But we do know that if we kill Klaus, Tyler dies. Things feel much riskier now.
Either way, Stefan shows up the mansion trying to trade the rest of the Original killing stakes for Damon. He tells Klaus there are 8 left, and that's it. Klaus, checks to see if Damon is still off vervain (by forcing him to torture himself) and then asks him if there are really only 8 more stakes and he says there are still 3 unaccounted for. Stefan tells him he'll get them and Rebekah lets Damon go.
So Damon heads over to Alaric's to get his stake (I couldn't have been the only person screaming with Caroline said she sent him home without a babysitter, right?), but it's missing. And that's when they realize that alter ego Alaric must have come out to play and who knows where the hell it is now. Fun.
Honestly, I like this direction much better for Alaric if we're going with him losing both time and his mind. It's much more fun if he might want to hurt Damon and Stefan than the founders.
