We Were the Lucky Ones 1X4: Casablanca

So, we start off finding out that Halina was actually not arrest, but being used as a pin cushion to donate blood. And they take so much that she can't even make it home. She collapses at Adam's door. He takes her in and nurses her back to health as best he can.

However, when she wakes up the next morning, it's to the news that the Germans are taking over Lvov as well. While she's out with Jakob shopping, the soldiers begin to fill the streets, and anyone who looks Jewish is being beaten. Not by the soldiers, but by citizens. She, Jakob, and Bella hid themselves in a basement. Later, Wolf shows up with some food and we find out that everyone who was not in the basements was removed from the house (and we assumed, killed). Halina also finds out that Adam is missing. Instead of going to Warsaw where he's forgery skills were needed, he decided to come back and stay with Halina, but no one has seen in for a bit.

Back in Radom, Mila's boss is arrested (I think this is what's happening anyway), so she can no long bring Felicia to work with her. They make the horrible decision to send her to live with a family where she will be safe. They smuggle her out in the middle of the night, but they end up sending her back because she looks to Jewish and they are unable to keep her. So Mila applies for transport to Palestine (there are only, like, 40 spots) and after telling them that her husband is a doctor, she and Felicia are granted access. However, shortly after they begin the journey, they are hauled out of the truck and forced to start digging (what I can only assume are their own graves). Anyone not following directions is shot immediately.

One of the woman tries to flirt with on of the soldiers, and it seems to work too. So, Mila, realizing what is going on, tells Felicia to pretend to be her daughter and run to her. She does and the solider allows both the woman and Felicia (who she lies and says is her daughter) back onto the truck. Shortly after that, the soldiers start shooting (as people try to stand up to them) and during this, Mila takes off running. We don't get the end of this scene, but it's hard to imagine that this whole family is make it out. Even if they are 'lucky'.

I'm not entirely sure what Addy is doing, but he convinces some guards to take him into the city so he can buy some supplies for the workers (I guess it's also a labor camp) promising to give them some money as well. They agree and he sneaks off to find Eliska, which he does pretty quickly. They reunite and decide to get married (but who know when that will be). For right now, it seems like there is only one more ship out and it's leaving out of Spain, so Addy convinces her and her mom that they all need to be on it. Just as they are leaving, the soldier come by looking for Addy so they quickly leave. I'm shocked that Eliska's mom didn't turn him over.

Dude. Every episode is just getting worse and worse. I mean, it's going to get a hell of a lot worse before it get better, but there is something worse about seeing people go through it then listening to or reading about it.
